Airbus UK Broughton becomes Mason Blackwell-Jones’ sixth Cymru North club

One of the JD Cymru North’s leading clubs has signed talented attacking player Mason Blackwell-Jones from Bangor 1876.
The 23-year-old has joined Airbus UK Broughton, league runners-up and triple cup winners in 2024-25.
As a youngster, Mason had spells at Manchester City, Wrexham AFC and Stoke City Academies.
He went on to join Rhyl FC and made his debut in senior football at the age of 17.
Mason played regularly for the Rhyl Development side before making his first team debut as a substitute in a Welsh Cup tie at Newtown on January 25, 2020.
In 2020-21, he signed for Flint Town United in their first season back in the Cymru Premier and made five substitute appearances.
The beginning of 2021-22 brought a switch to Prestatyn Town, where he featured in 14 Cymru North matches and had 19 first team outings in all.
A move to another Cymru North club, Conwy Borough, came in January 2022. with Mason making eight league appearances.
At the start of 2022-23, Mason joined Llandudno and played 25 Cymru North matches, scoring in a 4-0 win at Holyhead Hotspur, and appearing in four other first team games.
Denbigh Town became his fourth Cymru North club in 2023/24 and he scored on debut in a 1-0 Nathaniel MG Cup victory at Chirk AAA.
However, after just three outings in a Denbigh shirt, Mason transferred to Bangor 1876 in September 2023.
He also found the net in his first game for 1876, a 2-1 Welsh Blood Service League Cup loss to Guilsfield.
Mason went on to settle well and become a crowd favourite for Michael Johnston’s side, making 25 appearances and bagging three goals in that 2023-24 campaign.
Last season, he was one of Bangor’s most consistent performers, but things ended badly with the fan-owned club relegated from the Cymru North on the final day with defeat at Ruthin Town.
Mason was second top-scorer in the league for 1876 with nine goals.
His overall record for Bangor was 57 appearances and 12 goals.
Such was his eye-catching form last season that 2024-25 Cymru North runners-up and Welsh Blood Service League Cup Northern and National winners, as well NEWFA Challenge Cup lifters Airbus have brought Mason to the Hollingsworth Group Stadium.
The Wingmakers now become his sixth Cymru North club and Mason did not hesitate when asked to sign for them.
He told the club website: “The attraction comes from the way they play, how professional they are on and off the field. At the end of the day, they want to win trophies and be successful and that’s the main reason that has brought me here today.”
Airbus manager Mark Allen said: “Mason has been someone we have been tracking for a while, and he will bring attacking flair to us and high energy.”
