SHROPSHIRE COUNTY CRICKET LEAGUE REPORTS – MAY 31

Division One

Shifnal 2nd XI (20) 203-7 Chirk 1st XI (5) 172-10

Chirk gave it their best shot but finished up 31-run losers at third-place Shifnal seconds.

Put into bat, the hosts posted 203-7 off 45 overs, opener Harry Parton top-scoring with 60, while for the visitors, Aled King took 2-20 and Mark Shaw 2-31.

In reply, Chirk were going along nicely at 104-1, thanks to a 75-run partnership between Gareth Partridge and captain Liam Walker.

However, after Partridge went for 49 and Walker 35, it became an uphill task for the North Walians, despite useful runs down the order from King (25) and Nitish Sharma (17).

Chirk finished up 172 all out, Jack Shields taking 3-22 and Matt Denver 3-32.

The result leaves the Colliers next-to-bottom of the table at this early stage of the 2025 season.

Division Seven

Chirk 2nd XI (4) 141-10 Quatt 3rd XI (20) 206-5

Back-to-back defeats for Chirk seconds at the hands of second-place Quatt thirds.

The hosts won the toss and put the visitors in, but found it hard work as the Shropshire villagers set a decent 206-5 off 40 overs, Matt Jones (75) and Nathan Hakeman (74 not out) the star batsmen.

Alfie Shaw took 2-47 for the Welsh side, Habibullah Ahmadzai, Dale Randall and Harry Lunt picking up a wicket apiece.

Chirk seconds were then bowled out for 141, Daniel Graham highest contributor with 30, with extras second top-scorer on 28.

Jenny Biddle and Harrison Hakeman both scooped 3-25 for the victors.
