Here come the girls! CPD Y Rhyl 1879 women’s 2024-25 award winners are announced
It was time to celebrate on Friday night as CPD Y Rhyl 1879 looked back on a season of progress and achievement.
The men’s team were able to rejoice over winning the Ardal North West title and securing promotion to the tier 2 Cymru North.
For the women, it was a chance to evaluate a season where they again more than held their own in the tier 2 Genero Adran North.
While the campaign began with uncertainty for the Lilywhites, with a number of key players absent through injury and unavailability, once things settled and the squad got back close to full strength, performances and results improved vastly.
The 2024-25 women’s team awards went as follows:
PLAYERS PLAYER OF THE YEAR – CHELSEA EVANS
Midfielder Chelsea put in a tremendous amount of effort over the season both on and off the field.
She worked hard on improving her fitness with early morning gym sessions the norm and it paid big dividends on the field as her displays in matches improved constantly.
MANAGERS PLAYER OF THE YEAR – RACHAEL THOMAS
No surprise to see the captain in the prizes after a season where she got better and better, week by week, returning to playing after becoming a mum.
Her tackling, passing, shooting and motivational skills came to the fore and in the second half of 2024-25 she was one of the most consistent performers.
TOP GOALSCORER – LAURA WILLIAMS
Season-after-season Laura has produced the goals for Rhyl, often they are spectacular and with them comes a 100% all-round performance every time.
It would be great to know her overall goals total for the club, but there is a strong chance she is the Lilywhites’ all-time highest markswoman. A true diamond.
LEAGUE TOP GOALSCORER – REBECCA BANNISTER
Becca, or Boo as she is popularly known, scored the most league goals for Rhyl in 2024-25, including important strikes in wins over NFA and CPDM Bangor.
Added to this, she was her usual dominant midfield self, putting in strong tackles and supplying perfect passes.
COMMITTEE PLAYER OF THE YEAR – ROSIE O’BRIEN
A tremendous season for this non-stop left wing-back whose runs down the flanks were a big feature of Rhyl’s attacking play.
Rosie played in every one of 1879’s Genero Adran North matches and contributed three goals, including a couple in a 4-0 victory over NFA.
OUTSTANDING PERFORMER – LAUREN JONES
Produced a number of brilliant goalkeeping displays for the team, often winning high praise from opposing sides.
Sharing the gloveswoman duties with Bethan Thomas, Loz has made more than 50 appearances for the team over the past four seasons and also bagged a goal in 2024-25 against Flint.
