Tier 2 licence news: which women’s teams failed and which succeeded?

Llangefni Town’s hopes of competing in Genero Adran North next season have been boosted by the news the club has been awarded a Tier 2 licence.

However, Berriew, who may have to play Cefni in a promotion play-off, have been turned down for Tier 2 status at the first attempt.

Cefni finished runners-up in the Tier 3 North East Wales League West Division this season, but are eligible for promotion as champions CPD Pwllheli did not apply to go up.

Tier 3 North East Wales East Division title winners Berriew will now meet Pwllheli in a play-off to decide on the overall North Wales league champions for 2025-26.

According to the North East Wales FA, if Berriew win, they will be promoted to Adran North – provided they gain a Tier 2 licence on appeal.

However, if Berriew lose to Pwllheli, they will then face Llangefni Town in a promotion play-off. This will only happen, though, if Berriew are successful in their Tier 2 licence appeal to the FAW.

Seven of last season’s Adran North clubs were successful in their Tier 2 licence bids, but CPDM Bangor failed in the first instance.

All clubs which did not pass the licence test have 10 days in which to appeal.

Also from Tier 3, Airbus UK Broughton achieved Tier 2 licence status, but CPD Llanystumdwy were turned down,

The FAW Men’s & Women’s Tier 2 First Instance Body met yesterday and today to consider the Tier 2 Licensing Applications for the 2025/26 season.

The Panel assessed 24 applicants for the women’s Tier 2 Certification. 20 of the 24 applications for a Tier 2 licence have been successful, including 14 of the current Genero Adran North and Genero Adran South clubs and 6 clubs in Tier 3.

Infrastructure
Legal
Personnel & Administration
Financial

The FAW Men’s & Women’s Tier 2 Licence is required for clubs to participate in the JD Cymru North, JD Cymru South, Genero Adran North and Genero Adran South respectively for the 2025/26 season.

The Club Licensing system aims to assist the continual improvement and development of football clubs within Wales. Licensing is a transparent process that enables clubs to demonstrate to their stakeholders that they meet quality standards.

Following today’s meeting, the independent First Instance Body has decided on the following:
