An appeal to raise £5,000 so a talented young footballer can have a career-saving knee operation is £30 better off so far, thanks to one of North Wales’ finest goalscorers.

Last month, Grassroots North Wales pledged to donate £10 for each goal scored by CPD Gwalchmai net machine Marc Evans between now and the end of the season to the ACL injury – journey back to football fund set up to cover the cost of surgery for Llangefni Town goal queen Jess Jones, who has been out of action for much of this season.

The appeal set up in April has collected £1,235 so far towards its £5,000 target.

Marc, who is Jess’s uncle, has scored three goals so far for North Wales Coast West Premier Division title contenders Gwalchmai since GNW made its commitment, so £30 has been secured to date, but the Anglesey side could still play nine more games between now and the end of May.

So there are still plenty of opportunities for Marc to boost the final figure.

Marc has scored more than 400 goals in a dazzling career which has seen him win three Cymru Alliance League title medals, as well as play football in New Zealand and in the Welsh Premier League.

Jess, 19, has scored an amazing 83 goals in just 50 appearances for Llangefni Town since 2022-23 and hopes to further her football development in America.
