Running: Tour members gave a welcome boost to several local parkruns

Saturday, March 29, saw a bumper turnout at the Penrhyn Castle Parkrun with 276 mixed ability athletes tackling the rather undulating but picturesque course, which again included numerous ‘Conwy on Tour’ members.

Promising local teenager Noa Vaughan was 1st finisher overall with a fast time of just 15 minutes and 47 seconds, and he easily won his SM18 age cat.

First female athlete was Gemma Moore (Eryri Harriers), who won her VW40 age cat in 15th place overall with a new PB of 19.02. Gemma’s clubmate Ellin Haf was 2nd (19th), in 19.48, with Ellin Jones 3rd (26th), new PB 21.06.

The event attracted six GOG Triathlon members, and their places and times were: Billy Thomas (22nd) in 20.05 on course debut, Steve Owen (33rd) in 21.25, Andy Brazier (45th) 22.29, Merf Jones (91st) 25.49, Andrea Grove (133rd) 28.33 and Alison Monks-Roberts (186th) in 32.11.

NWRRC’s Sandy Johnston topped his VM75 age cat in 24.00 in 62nd place, and Don Hale recorded a new course PB in 113th and 2nd VM70 in 27.12, with Kevin Higgins 150th in 29.32.

Some other local (Conwy travelling results), included: Romeo Ciotec (North Norfolk Beach Runners) 23rd in 20.10, and he was pacing his friend Marcus Jones (21st) in 20.03, with both athletes recording course PBs.

In addition, Colwyn Bay AC athletes Josh Mottram and Ian Taylor ran well. Josh was 43rd on course debut in 22.25, and 3rd in his age cat, whilst Ian finished 54th on his 100th parkrun in 23.25.

Gareth Southworth was 44th in 22.27, Mike Pemberton 81st in 25.07, John Stallard 152nd in 29.50, and Pam Grant finished 166th overall and 1st VW65 in 30.46.

Greenfield Valley Parkrun

Some 94 runners took part in the Greenfield Valley Parkrun and again this involved some travelling Conwy tour runners including Stuart Culverhouse (NWRRC), 10th overall with a new course PB of 20.13, and he also won his VM50.

Gwyn Williams finished 17th on course debut in 22.05, and Darren Dentith was 19th and 3rd VM50 with a PB 22.37. Lis Williams was 69th overall in 32,29 and won her VW60 age cat.

First finisher overall was Tom Carter (Prestatyn RC) in 17.58, with Nathan James (Chester RR) 2nd on debut in 18.04 and Finlay Potter (Warriors Pentathlon) was 3rd in 18.38.

First female finisher was Catherine Davies (21st overall), in 23.19, Helen Ashworth (Prestatyn RC) was 2nd (33rd) in 25.26, with Rebecca Kaye 3rd (39th) on her debut in 26.29.

  • There were 256 finishers at the Nova Parkrun at Prestatyn on March 29, with 1st finisher Lewis Jones in 18.46, Christopher Bentley 2nd on his debut in 18.48 and fellow first-timer Jamie Steel (Penny Lane 3rd in 19.02.

Jone 2nd (19th) on her first time at the event in 21.58, and Gwennan Henstock finished 3rd (21st), with
a new course PB in 22.08. Steve Mason from NWRRC was a sweeper in 249th place in 53.15.

  • The 1st finisher at Newborough Forest Parkrun was Owen Hibbert (Deeside AC) on his debut in 17.34, with Ifan Jones (Cybi Striders) 2nd in 19.32.

Cara Bird (Cybi Striders) was first female over the line and fifth overall with a new PB 20.54, and Amelia Anderson (Tristars Conwy) was (15th), and 2nd on debut in 22.30, with JW11-14 athlete Chloe Cattroll 3rd female (18th overall), with a new course PB in 23.04. There were 147 runners.

  • Congratulations to Porth Eirias Runners who raised over £2k on March 30 for charity during their 12-hour relay along the prom at Rhos on Sea.

One of the club organisers, and event leader Paula Jones, confirmed: “We started at 5am and finished at 5pm with a nice little get together afterwards to celebrate. I can honestly say I have never been prouder to be their leader, what an amazing social running group we have.

“A huge amount of money raised for some amazing charity’s while having a lot of fun and laughter with amazing members… thank you all so much.”
