However, the women’s team now have a dynamic duo of their own heading for the history books.

Ava Suckley and Abbie Iddenden possess a combined total of 28 goals in all competitions during a season which has taken a huge turn for the better since December for Steve Dale’s side following an inauspicious start.

Suckley, 21, has banged in nine goals in her last eight appearances, while Iddenden, 24, has hit the net seven times in her six most recent outings.

Their magnificent form has helped Wrexham reach a second successive Welsh Cup final and seal a place in the top-four Championship for phase two of the 2024-25 campaign.

Both women were on target in Sunday’s 2-2 draw at Briton Ferry, which made it nine games without defeat for the Dragons, who lie third in the table.

In those nine matches unbeaten, the pair have grabbed 16 goals between them, including one apiece in the history-making 2-1 triumph at champions Cardiff City earlier this month.

Iddenden arrived at the Racecourse last August after two years at Stoke City, having previously played in the USA.

Suckley first joined Wrexham in 2022 after a spell with Stoke.

In the 2022-23 season, she notched 10 goals in 13 first team games, including eight in the league as Wrexham went on to lift the Adran North title with a 100%, 12-0 record.

She took time out in January of that season to travel, played briefly in Australia, but returned to the North Wales club ahead of the 2023-24 campaign – Wrexham’s first in the Genero Adran Premier.

Suckley has netted 35 goals in 54 first team appearances for the club.

Both women have a strong physical presence, mixed with exquisite ball skills, tiresome work-rate and proven finishing ability.

Sunday’s match at the Old Road Welfare Ground saw Wrexham’s terrific twosome star again.

The hosts took a 13th minute lead, with Megan Kearle converting a penalty after Keren Allen was adjudged to have brought down Maia Owen.

Only a brilliant double stop by Liz Craven denied Llansawel a second.

Wrexham levelled in the 39th minute when Lili Jones delivered a free kick to Iddenden, who headed against the foot of the post but netted her 12th goal of the season from the rebound.

A minute later, Iddenden brilliantly brought a long ball under control and Suckley put away her 16th of the campaign. The partnership comes up trumps again.

After the break, Briton Ferry upped their game and equalised through Kearle on 54 after Craven kept out an initial effort.

Neither side could grab a winner and Wrexham could leave the field satisfied with an away point which maintains their unbeaten record in Phase 2.
