“Disappointed to concede so late, but over the season we’ve exceeded expectations” – Flint manager Oli Williams

While disappointed at conceding a 95th minute equaliser at home to Llandudno yesterday, Flint Town United manager Oli Williams is far from discontent at how the team’s debut season in tier 2 has gone overall.

With one game remaining against CPDM Bangor on April 6, the Silkwomen can clinch fifth spot in Genero Adran North they win that curtain-closer at the Essity.

Kaelyn Williams (14) scored a screamer for Flint, while Llandudno keeper Beca Davies had a fine game – well done youngster

Sunday’s match saw Flint storm into a two-goal lead through Llinos Hughes and Zoe Stopford, but replies from Kelsey Davies and Angharad Jones brought the visitors back on terms by half time.

It looked like ending 2-2 before Kaelyn Williams’ 25-yard wonder strike put the hosts back in front.

However, Erin Doran scored direct from a corner five minutes into added time to salvage a 3-3 draw for the former champions.

Flint chief Williams said after the game: “The fact we are coming away from the game feeling like we’ve lost shows how far we have come this season.

“All the players and staff are gutted to only come away with a point after going ahead twice, and going ahead so late makes it difficult to take.

“We have to remember that Llandudno are a great side with lots of experience and league winners in the side. As a newly-promoted team we were never expected to take anything off the top teams, so to compete and be the better side over 90 minutes is a huge credit to the squad.

“We’ll look to go out with a win against Bangor, which would secure us 5th place. Although we are probably disappointed to not be a place or 2 higher. a 5th place finish would be a great achievement for us in our first season, and far outweighs the expectation on us before a ball was kicked.

“After Bangor, all attention turns to next season and improving on this season.”
