JD Cymru North: Colwyn Bay four points clear, Denbigh’s high fives, Gresford win again

JD Cymru North reports and table – February 28 and March 1

Buckley Town 0 Denbigh Town 5
Report: Ollie Beech

Having lost 2-1 at home to Buckley just before Christmas, Saturday certainly brought a dose of sweet revenge for Denbigh as they went nap with a ruthless display at The Globe.
When Dewi Llion’s side put all their good ingredients together, the chance of a delicious outcome is always there. Such was the case in their latest outing.
A brace for Alfie Vaughan along with strikes from Nathan Brown, Bobby Beaumont and Sam Duffy saw off the Bucks in a brilliant away display.
Meanwhile, a resolute defensive performance ensured Denbigh kept a first clean sheet in six games.
The first talking point came on 14 minutes when Denbigh stood in disbelief at the referee’s lack of action.
After superb link-up play between Owen Davies and Brown, the former appeared to be hacked down in the box only for the officials to remain unmoved.
Less than a minute later and surely the referee would point to the spot when Duffy ran through and looked to be chopped down by goalkeeper Jimmy McHarrie, but again nothing given.
Just before the half hour mark, Denbigh had the lead and what a strike it was. A throw came into the box before being half-cleared and falling to Brown who lashed a volley into the top left corner.
Town went for a second and delivered it just two minutes after their opener. Brown turned provider when his flag-kick met the head of Beaumont, who looped the ball into the far corner.
The visitors made a habit of quickfire doubles when with two minutes of the first 45 to play Vaughan had his first when he swept the ball into the bottom left corner.
Moments later in stoppage time Denbigh were in dreamland with Duffy rushing through one on one to make it four going into the break.
Half-Time: Buckley Town 0-4 Denbigh Town
Buckley had the first chance of the second half when Max Moore struck the post from an angle.
Vaughan almost made it five when he turned his man and forced a powerful effort, only for McHarrie to tip over.
Iwan Roberts was introduced just after the hour and caused issues for the back four, going close on a couple of occasions.
With five minutes to play Buckley struck the post once again via Moore.
The icing on the cake came for Denbigh in stoppage time as substitute Gabriel Hinchcliffe nodded the ball forward for Vaughan who ran through and calmly slotted home.
Bangor 1876 2 Llandudno 3

It is now just one win in their last 11 league games for Bangor 1876 as they went down at home to a Llandudno side in fine form.
The hosts took a 17th minute lead when a free kick was swung into the box and Tom Clarke poked the ball over the line from close range after it was headed back across goal.
Just seconds later, Harvey Bennett levelled the score after the ball was played in from the right wing.
With 27 minutes played, Bangor regained the advantage. Llandudno cleared a corner but Liam Morris regained possession 25 yards out. He took one touch to control the ball before firing in a powerful low shot that went in off the post.
Morris went close to a second before Llandudno thought they had equalised for the second time five minutes before the break after the ball was headed in following a free-kick on the left.
However, the goal was disallowed due to offside. From another set-piece, Mark Cadwallader saw a header strike the post and rebound to safety.
The visitors were not to be denied and again drew level when Harvey Bennett netted from close range after the ball was hooked across goal from the right.
After an even start to the second period, the visitors took the lead for the first time in the 59th minute.
Ben Maher swung a free-kick into the box from the right and Cadwallader scored with a downward header.
Bangor pressed for an equaliser, Corrig McGonigle and Iolo Hughes not far away, but the hosts unable to find an equaliser in front of a crowd of over 500 spectators.
Airbus UK 1 Guilsfield 1
Not the result Airbus were looking for as they lost ground in their title duel with leaders Colwyn Bay.
A shock was on the cards when Jamie Hyne edged Guilsfield in front on 72 minutes, but a Jordan Evans leveller after 82 at least rescued a point for the Wingmakers.
Caersws 1 Penrhyncoch 2
Dion Phillips and Owain Evans grabbed the goals which won the day for Penrhyncoch, Tommy Rowlands replying for the Bluebords.
Llay Welfare 1 Flint Mountain 1
Jonathan Collo scored for the fourth successive game and made it 10 goals for the season as his 96th minute equaliser grabbed a share of the spoils for bottom side Llay.
Fourth-place Mountain had led since the seventh minute through Alfie Clark.
Mold Alexandra 1 Gresford Athletic 3
A fourth straight league victory for Gresford, who were three-up at half time courtesy of a Toby Gallagher-Keenan double and Charlie Mann single.
Lucas Gregson pulled one back for Mold midway through the second half, but that was as good as it got for the hosts.
Prestatyn Town 0 Holywell Town 1
Although on top for much of the game, Holywell needed a 22nd goal of the season from Jamie Breese to win the battle at Bastion Gardens.
Breese struck in the 63rd minute from a Jake Cooke assist.
Luca Hogan headed against the post for the Wellmen, who also forced home keeper Robbie Williams into some fine stops.
James Stead went close with a long range effort for the Seasiders, whose assistant-manager Ryan Turner was red-carded on 64 minutes.
Ruthin Town 0 Colwyn Bay 1
Jamie Cumming produced the 24th minute winning goal for the Bay, who are now four points clear at the summit although they have played a game more than nearest challengers Airbus.
Cumming scored with a header from a great cross by Joe Williams.
Bay had other chances in the first half, but Cumming saw a header cleared off the line, Dan Atkins was denied by a fine save from Ruthin keeper Dan Goldston and nobody could get on the end of a good cross from Ethan Roberts.
In the second half Goldston made great stops from Roberts and Lloyd Marsh-Hughes, with Ruthin also clearing off the line and the Bay were convinced the ball had crossed the line in added time, but the referee didn’t give it.
