MAGIC NUMBER: Island marksman reaches 200 goals!

Possibly the best action photo of James Ryan in existence is of him acrobatically SAVING a goal for Caergybi

Anglesey-based striker James Ryan reached a special landmark today.

The Caergybi front man notched his 200th career goal in North Wales senior football in a 6-1 derby victory over Holyhead Town.

James, 38, who hails from Valley, only began playing local football in 2016-17 after leaving the Army.

Since then, he has hit 114 goals for Caergybi, 74 in a Bryngwran Bulls shirt, eight in Holyhead Town colours and four during a brief spell at Glantraeth.

James’ career highlight to date is the 72 goals he amassed for Caergybi in 2018-19, which won him the Bob Brodie Trophy for the highest marksman on Ynys Môn.

It was a record total for winning the trophy at the time and came the season after he finished second in the table after bagging 54 for Bryngwran.

James has reached double figures in each season he has played except 2021-22 and the current one, where he has five for Caergybi, but plenty of time to bang in a few more.

He said: “I will always say winning the Bob Brodie is my greatest achievement – ‘the one I wanted to win’ for sure.

“I always said to get to 200 I’ll be happy to achieve, but as I am I won’t say no to a few more goals before finishing!”

James would also be delighted to add some more winners’ medals to his collection with Caergybi.

The Millbank side are into the NWCFA Junior Cup Final, where they meet Blaenau Ffesfiniog Amateurs in May, as well as in contention for the tier 5 North Wales Coast West Division One title.
