Llangefni Town v Connah’s Quay Town
St Asaph City v Holyhead Hotspur
Sub Jacob Godsman-Pilling scored a 15-minute hat-trick and Craig Whelan delivered a first-half treble as Hotspur knocked in a magnificent seven at Y Morfa on Wednesday night.
Darren Garmey’s third-place side let it be known they are very much part of the Ardal North West title race as they made it five unbeaten and 13 points out of a possible 15 in the process.
The first 45 minutes were all about Whelan, who joined Holyhead in November from Bangor 1876, the experienced performer producing his first goals for his new club, an 11-minute hat-trick achieved between the 30th and 41st.
Top-scorer Cory Williams was on the mark in the second half with his 16th goal of the season. The striker has notched 40 goals in 68 appearances for the Holy Islanders since signing from Conwy Borough in November 2022.
The dynamic Godsman-Pilling rounded off a night to remember for Hotspur by netting on 75, 78 amd 90 minutes.
Dylan Proctor’s late winner sealed another three points for leaders Rhyl, but it was tough going against a resilient Felinheli.
Tributes were paid to former Rhyl FC director Malcolm Hall who sadly passed away in the last week. The club’s thoughts and prayers are with Malcolm’s family and friends at this incredibly difficult time.
Playing downhill at Cae Seilo, Rhyl dominated the early exchanges, Jordan Worthington with a fine effort setting the tone.
Tom Kemp delivered a stunning ball from defence which found Proctor, who was able to turn but fired straight at Marc Jones.
Moments later Archie Jones’ shot was saved after a good move down the left.
The breakthrough finally came in the 11th minute. Kemp sent the ball across the park, Jones controlled and entered the box but was brought down.
Captain Reece Fairhurst netted the resultant penalty.
Jones went close to a second for 1879 before the break.
As exciting as the first half might have been, the second was a lot scrappier, the pitch being the true leveller.
Felin hit the post early on, and as 1879 struggled with the incline the home side used the conditions to their advantage.
Close to the hour mark, a long ball over from defender Rhodri Dafydd was beautifully finished by Gruff John, who beat Adam Reid at his near post.
Five minutes later Rhyl would go back in front. Shortly after coming on for his debut, Dylan Meredith capitalised on a defensive error and broke through on goal, calmly beating the keeper.
Felin equalised for a second time on 70’, a great move down the left ending with Aled Griffith finding the net.
Both sides now swapped spells of pressure before with four minutes left, Kemp delivered the killer cross for Proctor was first to stab in at the near post on the volley.
Llanrwst stretched their unbeaten run to five matches by sweeping aside Llangefni at Parc Gwydir.
Sam Thomas (2), Callum Parry, Julian Williams and William Owen-Ford shared the goals.
Elgan Roberts’ 66th minute penalty clinched a hard-earned win for Llannefydd on Anglesey.
Bottom side Menai Bridge fought back from two-down to level through a Matthew Jones double, goals from Mathew Jones and Sam Jones (penalty) having put the visitors in control.
Fine result on the road for nine-man NFA who sit sixth in the table.
Harrison Bellis (2), Harry Lockley and Oliver Hansen split the goals for the visitors, Llion Griffiths replying.
NFA’s Bellis saw a straight red on 65 minutes before Thomas Hughes was dismissed after 93 for two yellows.
Bay edged the honours 1-0 at The Rec, Sean McCaffery supplying the winner from a Les Davies assist on 24 minutes.
Trearddur have now won five matches in succession.
Back to winning ways for long-time leaders Porthmadog, who had lost four of their previous five league encounters.
It all came good at Roe Plas Meadows, Saints’ hopes of success taking a severe knock as early as the fifth minute when goalkeeper Hughie Foulkes was red-carded.
Shaun Cavanagh and Cai Jones both found the net to give the visitors a two-goal interval lead.
Josh Banks, Danny Brookwell and Elis Puw added further goals in the second half.
Brookwell was dismissed on 72 for the travellers after receiving a second yellow.
