ARDAL NORTH WEST LATEST TABLE AND REPORTS – TUESDAY, JANUARY 21

Porthmadog 1 (C Jones 80)
Trearddur Bay 2 (S Edwards 41, L Davies 77)

In their Bangor City heyday how many times did local lads Les Davies and Sion Edwards appear on the same scoresheet?

Countless occasions. However, on Tuesday night the famous double act turned the clock back and delivered the goals that mattered yet again – this time for new club Trearddur Bay.

The pair ensured Porthmadog lost their 100 percent home record in Ardal North West as Bay ran out 2-1 victors at Y Traeth. Port had won all nine previous league games at their ground.

Having recently defeated Port 1-0 at home, Trearddur completed a double over the former leaders and edged up to fifth spot.

Davies, 40, and 37-year-old Edwards, who made almost 450 combined Welsh Premier appearances for City and notched 134 top-flight goals between them for the club, reunited at Trearddur Bay when Sion joined the Anglesey club in June 2024.

Both are also former Porthmadog players.

MATCH REPORT…..

Trearddur Bay travelled to Porthmadog knowing they had their work cut out against the early pace-setters in the league who had stumbled across some unfamiliar form in recent weeks.

It was a cagey start from both sides but the hosts had the better chances in the opening 20 minutes, ex-Bay forward Shaun Cavanagh looked certain to give his side the lead but seeing his effort saved by Paul Pritchard.

Bay’s in-form Dewi Thomas was next to have a clear-cut chance. His strike from close range whistled past the past and the score remained 0-0.

Some tidy work from youngster Thomas Lennon saw Trearddur turn the ball over in the middle of the park on 42 minutes, Toby Jones then slid in Sion Edwards, whose tricky feet bamboozled the Port defence and the winger fired home to give his side the lead,

Port made changes in the second half and looked to get the ball forward as quick as possible. Bay went through a period of having to constantly defend around the hour mark and did so superbly.

As Port pushed further forward for the equaliser, gaps opened up for Bay and the fresh legs of Josh Stanley-Williams really tested the home back-line.

Another breakaway attack from Bay resulted in a corner for the visitors. Stanley-Williams trapped a loose ball and found Les Davies who fired his effort into the top right corner and doubled the lead with his 14th goal of the season.

It was really “gung-ho” time for Port with only 12 minutes left on the clock. The hosts threw everything at Bay and their efforts were rewarded on the 81st minute, a scramble in the box resulting in Cai Jones netting from close range to give his side hope as the game entered its final stages.

Again the aggressive attack from Port left gaps at the back and new Bay signing Ryan Pryce was unlucky not to put the game to bed but for a tremendous last ditch tackle from Caio Evans.

A tired challenge from Dewi Thomas on the edge of the area presented Port with one final chance to strike at goal. Pritchard tipped the effort from Rhys Alun Williams over the bar and Bay managed to successfully defend the resulting corner and hold on for all 3 points.

Porthmadog: Ollie Farebrother, Nathan Williams (Jack Rimmer 55), Josh Banks, Gruff Ellis (Jamie Jones 65), Iddon Price, Kurtis Pearson (Jake Jones 76), Rhys Alun Williams, Ryan Williams (Caio Evans 55), Shaun Cavanagh (Tom Hilditch 65), Cai Jones (c), Sion Williams.
