Two highly-rated former Welsh Premier League players reached their 40th birthday on January 2.

One was Ian Griffiths, who we featured yesterday, and the other was ex-Caernarfon Town, Rhyl and Llanrug United midfielder Dylan Owen.

Here, we focus on 10 great highlights of Dylan’s career.

  • Dylan’s senior football career began with a scholarship at Wrexham AFC, then he went on to play for Caernarfon Town, Colwyn Bay (loan), Rhyl, Llangefni Town, Caernarfon Wanderers, Nantlle Vale, Llanrug United and CPD Penrhyndeudraeth.
  • One of his greatest achievements was winning the FAW Trophy with Llanrug United in 2013-14. The then Welsh Alliance League side beat Chirk AAA 3-2 in the final at Rhyl.
  • Dylan played in the Welsh Premier for Caernarfon Town, Rhyl FC and Llangefni Town.
  • He was in the Rhyl squad which faced Suduva of Lithuania in the 2006-07 Uefa Europa League. The Lilywhites drew 0-0 at home and lost 2-1 away.
  • Dylan regards a free kick stunner on his home debut for Caernarfon Town in a 3-2 win over league leaders Aberystwyth Town in 2003-04 as his greatest goal.
  • Dylan joined Llanrug in August 2012. He made 229 appearances for the Arfon club, netting 68 goals and gaining 36 man of the match awards. He was club Player of The Season in 2013/14 and 2015/16 and top scorer with 14 goals in the latter campaign.
  • As well as winning the FAW Trophy with the Eithin Duon club, he also lifted the Cookson Cup in 2014/15 and Mawddach Cup 2016/17.
  • A highly talented and intelligent midfielder, he was particularly well-known for his long range shooting and ability from dead-ball situations.
  • Affectionately known as ‘Midge’, Dylan earned great respect when he stayed loyal to hometown club Caernarfon Town during their difficult 2009-10 season
  • Dylan retired from playing football in June 2020, but reappeared briefly for Penrhyndeudraeth in 2021-22.
