Jamie Breese began the new year where he left off the previous one with a crucial late second goal in Holywell’s victory at Maesdu Park.
With 34 goals across all competitions in 2024, Breese was the highest marksmen within the top two tiers involved in North Wales football.
On New Year’s Day, the former Cymru Premier hitman played a key role in his side scuppering improved Llandudno’s four-match winning run.
Three more points made it five wins in six – the other game a draw – for the Wellmen in Cymru North, where they strengthened their hold on third place.
Neither side was able to break the deadlock in the first half, Mark Cadwallader going closest for Tudno, while Jake Cooke and Mark Winslade went nearest to scoring for the visitors.
Early in the second half, a double save from Llandudno’s Cameron Darling denied Tom Bibby and Gareth Evans following a free kick.
The stalemate was finally ended in the 70th minute when Brady McGilloway released Cooke, who sped into the box and finished clinically past Darling.
Llandudno rallied, Adam Stephens’ free kick saved by Ryan Woods before the home side had an effort cleared off the line.
The contest was settled six minutes from time when Danny Sullivan and Cooke combined to fnd Breese, who cut inside and fired the ball home.
A five-goal victory for the Bay leaves them four points behind leaders Airbus with the same number of games played – and still 12 rounds of matches apiece left.
Gwion Dafydd scored the only goal of the first half with 25 minutes played, Tom Marsh-Hughes with the assist.
In the second half, Dan Atkins delivered a dazzling double, Dafydd Griffith with an own goal in between, then Sol Forde made it 5-0 with 81 gone.
This was Bay’s 14th successive league win and they made it 17 league games without a loss.
David Forbes notched the 26th minute goal which secured a close-fought win for the Colliers.
This was a third straight triumph for Athletic, who have nudged up to 11th in the table.
