Boxing Day football: Colwyn Bay make it not so unlucky 13 straight victories at 1876 expense

JD CYMRU NORTH – DECEMBER 26, 2024
Bangor City 1876 1 (Morris 49)
Colwyn Bay 3 (G Dafydd 39, Forde 62, Marsh-Hughes 85)
Report: Colwyn Bay FC
More than 1,000 spectators were at Bangor City Stadium to see Colwyn Bay make it 13 straight league wins with a revenge victory over a home side which beat them 4-0 at Llanelian Road back in July.
The Seagulls secured a 3-1 Boxing Day triumph to move 10 points clear of third-placed Holywell Town in the JD Cymru North.
The day was soured somewhat, however, by an injury to young Will McKinley who was carried off on a stretcher after a challenge which earned Bangor captain Tomos Clarke a straight red card in the second half.
Bay were already 2-1 up by then with goals from Gwion Dafydd and Sol Forde, and Lloyd Marsh-Hughes added a third late on to complete a victory which avenged the heavy home defeat to Bangor at the start of the league campaign.
Bangor started the brighter and Sam Hart made a fine sliding challenge to prevent an early goal for the hosts, but the Bay gradually grew into the game with Jamie Cumming shooting wide and McKinley hitting the post with a shot on the turn.
The Seagulls took the lead on 39 minutes when home keeper Bradley Farrar spilled a catch from Hart’s free kick and Gwion Dafydd scored from the loose ball.

The Bay also had a penalty shout for a push on Gwion Dafydd waved away before half-time.
Bangor equalised four minutes into the second half when Liam Morris scored after Bay keeper Rhys Williams had made a fine save to keep out a Joe Culshaw effort.
Cumming shot narrowly over the bar and Ethan Roberts had an effort saved, but Bay regained the lead on 62 minutes with Forde firing home after a strong run into the box by Lewis Sirrell.
Clarke then received his red card and Bay wrapped up the victory on 85 minutes when substitute Marsh-Hughes drove a low shot into the bottom corner after a strong run into the area and went close with two other efforts.
