CYMRU NORTH REPORTS – DECEMBER 21

Denbigh Town 1 Buckley Town 2

A fifth straight league win lifted Buckley Town into third place in the Cymru North.

For Denbigh, it was a case of coming back down to earth after reaching the Welsh Cup quarter-finals for the first time in their history last weekend, followed by a midweek league success at Prestatyn Town.

Buckley took the lead within five minutes when Max Moore finished well with a smart flick before a corner from Daniel Holland went straight in after the break.

Sam Duffy grabbed one back in the sixth minute of stoppage time but it wasn’t enough as Asa Hamilton’s visitors took the points.

From the start, Buckley moved forward with purpose and struck that early blow when a low cross via the right by Brad Knight was met by Moore whose brilliant flick found the back of the net.

It was end-to-end for the rest of the half. Home skipper Keiron Roberts delivered a cross from deep finding the head of Owen Davies, but it was clawed wide by Ryan Goldston.

On 36 minutes Iwan Roberts cut in well from the right and leathered a low ball just wide of the far post.

Two minutes before the break Nick Grogan should have doubled the lead when his volley on the turn was saved outstandingly by Luke Wilmot.

Half-Time: 0-1

On 56 minutes the lead was doubled when a questionable flag-kick to the visitors was swung in by Holland, missing everybody before creeping into the far corner of Wilmot’s net.

Denbigh rallied, Iwan Roberts testing Goldston with a good effort.

The hosts created a brilliant chance when Davies threaded the ball to Duffy on the wide right but he could only drag it off target.

With 83 minutes gone, Davies’ header was cleared off the line.

The referee indicated 10 minutes of added time and Denbigh kept bursting forward.

With six minutes gone, Davies played a superb ball to Duffy who rushed through and finished brilliantly to hand Town a lifeline.

However, Denbigh couldn’t find the equaliser, whilst Buckley, who had a goal chalked off for offside, ended up taking the points.

Airbus UK 5 Caersws 0

Seven days after beating Caersws 2-0 in the Welsh Cup, Cymru North leaders Airbus recorded a much more emphatic victory over the Bluebirds in the league.

Mark Allen’s side completed an eighth straight league win having not conceded in their last four outings.

The Wingmakers took a seventh-minute lead at the Hollingsworth Group Stadium when George Peers lashed a beauty from distance into the top corner.

JKiden Cooke hit the crossbar a minute later and there were several more close calls for the home side before they scored again on 27 minutes.

It was Peers on target again, knocking the ball over the line via a Cooke pull-back.

Jordan Evans’ foerce strike almost made it three, but keeper Max Williams produced a fantastic tip over.

Peers completed his hat-trick on 70 minutes when a perfectly-weighted pass from Evans set him up for a clinical finish.

Cooke and Danny Warren added singles before the end.

Guilsfield 6 Llay Welfare 1

Two goals apiece from James Smallwood, Callum Bromley and Joe Haycock booked maximum points for Guilsfield, Bisensio Kamilo replying.
