Former Caernarfon Town, Rhyl FC and Bala Town glovesman Alex Ramsay has been appointed head of national goalkeeping by the Football Association of Wales.

The 31-year-old’s responsibilities include identifying talented male and female goalkeepers, in addition to developing a keeper pathway curriculum and delivering elite courses.

Ramsay’s previous role was as Scouting Manager at Brighton & Hove Albion Football Club. He is also very well known within Welsh domestic football having made over 200 appearances in the JD Cymru Premier and was a Cymru C international.

Alex came through the ranks of the TNS scholarship scheme, and was loaned out to Caersws for the 2010/11 season.

He returned to TNS was offered a professional contract, and was included in their Europa League squad in 2011.

Alex then headed out on loan once more, where he would join Cymru Alliance side Rhyl FC, and helped them to the league title in 2012/13 in a season which saw the Lilywhites go unbeaten.

He remained with Rhyl on their return to the Welsh Premier and also had a short spell with Swansea City Under-21s in 2015.

In 2016 he joined Caernarfon Town, and again went on to win promotion from the Cymru Alliance to the Welsh Premier League after the Canaries scooped the tier 2 title in 2017-18.

In the Cofis’  first two seasons back in the WPL, Alex would help them to two top six finishes.

He signed for Bala from Caernarfon in June of 2020, going to make 81 Cymru Premier appearances for the Lakesiders and featured for them in European ties against Valletta, Larne and Sligo Rovers.

Alex has also represented his country on a few occasions, while playing for the Wales C Squad and at Under 18’s Semi Pro level.
