Here’s Grassroots North Wales’ top 10 goals from women’s football matches we’ve covered in 2024.
I’ve had a rethink and changed the order of some I placed either higher or lower in a review of the 2023-24 season.
Lois edges it due to the importance of her match-winning goal in May, as well as its individual brilliance.
What a goal to win the cup!
Flint had fought back from 2-0 down to force extra time only for Pwllheli’s record goalscorer Lois Thomas to grab a stunning winner in the added half-hour.
Lois broke down the right, cut in from the byline and curled home a fantastic left-footed strike – a truly magical individual goal.
Flint’s first ever goal as a tier 2 side and what a strike!
Captain Ruby McGilloway let fly with a 25-yard missile which was past the keeper before she could move.
That made it 1-0 in a Genero Adran Trophy clash at the Essity that the Silkwomen eventually won 4-3.
Scoring with a lob over the keeper from either inside or just on the edge of the box is quite a skill.
I recall notable occasions where Glenn Hoddle and George Best achieved this.
In this memorable clash at the Quay 3G, Aimee Redfern came up with a sublime winner in such a fashion for the Nomads.
With the score 2-2 and the 90 minutes up, the ball was laid back to Aimee, who from about 18 yards scooped a left-footed chip over Flint’s quite tall keeper Becky Bott which dipped under the bar.
If Nomads do win the Genero Adran North title this season, goals like Aimee’s will be remembered as key moments.
An absolute screamer from the skipper.
During a golden spell of attacking from the champions-to-be, defender Sofie hit a magnificent strike from 30-35 yards which gave the keeper no chance.
There was probably no more popular goal scored last season.
Fittingly, Flint’s final league goal of their title-winning season was one of their very best.
A corner floated into the box from the right was volleyed home in spectacular fashion by Tegan, the ball appearing to be behind her before she swivelled and made a lethal connection.
The darling of the Wrexham fans scored a goal none of them will ever forget.
It was 0-0 against fellow top-three side Swansea when Keren Allen found Phoebe Davies, who fed Amber Lightfoot and her touch was latched onto by Lili Jones, who hit a precise 30 to 40 yard effort over Swansea keeper Chelsea Herbert into the net.
Talented youngster Erin lit up Maesdu Park with an amazing shot from the best part of 30 yards from the left which flew into the top corner.
This match also saw Kelsey Davies bag a hat-trick on her 27th birthday for the home side.
Player of the match Evans completed her hat-trick in style at Bastion Gardens as she left a trail of defenders in her wake before applying a trademark left-foot finish.
A magnificent individual effort from the star of the show as Felin retained the Coast Cup.
Dazzling Rosie broke from midfield, outpaced opponents, then 20 yards out switched the ball onto her right foot before curling a cracker into the top corner.
Her watching grandad shouted: “what a goal! what a beauty!“
Rosie has been a shining star all year for the Silkies.
Amy was outstanding in this Welsh Cup tie, scoring a hat-trick with her third goal the best of the lot.
Connie Williams lifted a lovely ball over the Felin defence and Amy let fly with a superb first time right-foot volley which flew into the net. A girl right on top of her game on this day.
