Flint’s football stars light up the town

Flint Town United ladies switched on the Christmas lights on November 28

Meet a group of ladies who were the star turn when the town of Flint unveiled its new Christmas lights this evening.

Flint Town United Ladies, currently in the tier 2 Genero Adran North League, and last season’s North Wales League East Division invincible champions, were the special guests of town mayor Melly Buckley at this evening’s event.

It was quite an honour for the football females, performing such a prestigious ceremony in a town which has produced Olympic taekwondo champion Jade Jones, football legend Ian Rush and celebrated actor Ian Puleston-Davies among others.

Cllr Buckley said: “As Mayor of Flint this year, I was absolutely delighted to be able to invite Flint Town United Ladies FC to be the guests of honour and officially switch the brand new Christmas Lights on.

The team had a world class league campaign last season winning every match that they played and gained a very well earned promotion.

The team has developed so much in the short time that they have been formed, not only showing impressive skills and performances on the pitch, but true team spirit and camaraderie off the pitch too.

The Silkwomen are definitely carving their place in our town’s sporting heritage and I am immensely proud to support them.

Well done the gals.

If you’d like to come along and support them, their next home fixture is this Sunday and it’s just £3 on the gate!
