Y Glannau returned to the Premier Division summit after a hard-fought victory in a seven-goal thriller against fierce rivals Bow.

Prestatyn-based Bow had won three out of four previous league meetings with the greens, but on this day the St Asaph hosts came out on top at the Glan Clwyd Sports Centre pitch.

In windy conditions, the game started off very scrappy with both teams struggling to get the ball down.

Glannau started to settle and missed a one-on-one chance which forced a great save from Bow keeper Nathan Bridges.

The first goal came on the 20 minute mark from the visitors, when Dean Davies hit a sweetly-struck 25-yarder into the top left corner.

Glannau responded in rapid fashion with a quick counter. A ball played to Dan Price on the right led to a delivery for Ste Kirk, who beat the onrushing keeper to equalise.

Bow had an opportunity through Rob Parry, who was denied by the legs of Glannau keeper Brad wright.

On 34 minutes, Glannau edged ahead from a throw in that came to Tawse Cox, who lifted the ball over an opponent and volleyed into the bottom left corner

Half time: 2-1

The second half saw Bow emerge full of fight with the front line getting the ball down and playing quick and direct.

Bow were awarded a penalty on 57 when Chris Bower mistimed a challenge on Parry, who took the resultant spot-kick and scored his 13th goal of the season.

The game started heating up with multiple chances falling to both teams and a good physical battle ensuing in midfield.

In the 64th minute Glannau scored their third when David McHugh’s throw-in found Joey Fontana, who leapt highest and flicked a header into the far side of the goal.

Glannau got a fourth on 75 through Carl Murray, who lost his man and allowed the ball to roll across his body while driving at goal, waiting for the keeper to move before placing into the bottom-left corner.

Bow’s John Atherton recieved a red card with 10 minutes left for protesting against a challenge on him which he felt the referee treated too leniently.

The visitors never gave up and snatched a third goal on the 90 mark. A shot came back off the upright and Joe Carey converted the rebound.
