Connah’s Quay Nomads has appointed Aimee Redfern head coach of the club’s Girls PDC U16s side.

Redfern is currently a first team player for Nomads and during her two-and-a-half-year spell at the club has made over 50 competitive appearances.

Predominantly a centre-back, Redfern has now decided to expand on her playing duties and take up a key role with the girls’ team.

Redfern’s wealth of playing experience will help her to develop as a coach and assist players as they prepare for a future in football, and potentially even Nomads women’s senior squad.

In her exciting new role, Redfern will be supported by women’s first team manager, UEFA A License holder and Girls PDC leader Jordan Parry.

Nomads’ Girls Player Development Centre was originally set up in March 2023 with the main objective being to give younger girls the chance to take the next step in their football careers. Just three months ago, the PDC were awarded an FAW accredited status following a successful application.

In addition to our women’s first team and U19s, this sector of the club now has youth sides starting from U9 level and a scholarship team.

Redfern said she is thrilled with what she has seen so far, having begun training sessions with the squad last week.

She added: “I am really excited to step into my new role. I have wanted to get back into coaching for a while now and I feel this is the perfect opportunity.

“The Girls PDC at Connah’s Quay Nomads is producing a more elite standard each year and the current players have so much potential to develop, and if they keep working hard, they could see themselves playing for the senior team like myself.

“I feel privileged that I get to be a part of their journey. I hope that I can pass on my knowledge and experience to the girls and help them develop further.”
