NORTH EAST WALES LEAGUE – REPORTS & TABLES NOV 16

PREMIER DIVISION

CPD Gronant 1 Coedpoeth United 4

A fifth straight win in all competitions for Coedpoeth lifted them up to second in the Premier.
It was the longest league journey of the season for the Wrexham side for what was expected to be a very tricky game on a tight pitch.
United took a little while to settle until recent signing from Anglesey club Gwalchmai, Geraint Jones, let fly with a 25 yarder which went in off a post to make it 1-0 with 11 minutes played.
Just after the half hour, Ollie Lewis hit a shot which arrowed into the corner from the edge of the box.
With their tails up, Coedy soon got another as striker Curt Griffiths got free to fire home
In the 42nd minute, Mike Taylor broke into the box only to be felled and up stepped Jones to put the pen into the top corner for his second.
Half-time 4-0 – a great 45 minutes for the away side.
To their credit, Gronant rolled their sleeves up and got a goal back early in the second half via Matthew Gilsenan.
After that, both teams carved out a few chances but new Coedy keeper Tom Williamson, replacing Callum Thurnham who is moving to Australia to live, was up to anything thrown at him.
