Latest arrivals and departures from tier 3 club CPD Y Rhyl 1879

The two Pauls – manager Moore (left) and new signing Fleming

Three new signings have been announced by CPD Y Rhyl 1879.

Paul Fleming and Billy Holmes join from Denbigh Town, while Lewis Hodson makes the switch from Connah’s Quay Town.

Goalscoring midfielder Fleming spent five years at Denbigh, where he netted 42 goals in 133 matches across all competitions.

As captain, in 2022-23 he led Town to the Ardal North West title and Ardal Northern Cup double, as well as the FAW Trophy final. He also netted 24 goals in 38 matches that campaign.

Under his leadership, Denbigh have established themselves nicely as a tier 2 Cymru North side over the past two seasons.

Fleming is now a Rhyl 1879 player and makes his debut in today’s Ardal North West visit to Menai Bridge Tigers.

New 1879 manager Paul Moore said: “Paul obviously will bring valued experience having won the league with Denbigh.

“He adds to our attack, as we see 2 or 3 new faces joining, giving us the attacking strength I feel we are lacking.

“Paul was captain at Denbigh and shows that we have been able to attract a leader and good player to our ranks.”

Lewis Hodson

Hodson, 23, who featured in the Connah’s Quay side which lost 2-0 at Rhyl last weekend, has been a key member of a Town outfit which has made a fantastic impact at Tier 3 since winning promotion from the North East Wales Premier Division last term.

He made 75 league and cup appearances for Town over three seasons, scoring 12 goals.

Billy Holmes has joined Rhyl 1879

Defender Holmes, 31, was the longest-serving member of the current Denbigh Town squad before his departure.

He was promoted to the senior squad for the first time in 2013 before departing for a brief spell and returning to the club in 2015.

Holmes went on to make 157 appearances in all competitions scoring twice for the club whilst also picking up double-honours in the 2022/23 campaign.

ARRIVALS AND DEPARTURES

The experienced Ronnie Green has been appointed assistant-manager to Paul Moore at Belle Vue.

Green was also part of Moore’s management team at Hednesford Town of the Northern Premier League Division One West last season.

He has a strong background in women’s football, having managed Wrexham, Stockport County, Wem Town and Leek Town ladies teams.

Physio Matt Lewis will be remaining with the club under the leadership of Moore.

Meanwhile, Steve Jones, Ryan Turner and Andy Wilmot, all members of former Lilywhites manager Gareth Thomas’ backroom team, have left Belle Vue.

Thomas was appointed new manager of Prestatyn Town this week.
