Genero Adran Trophy – Wrexham through, Flint, Nomads and Llandudno bow out heroically

Nomads did the tier 2 Genero Adran North immensely proud in losing by just a single goal to Adran Premier champions and treble-holders Cardiff.

The visitors struck first on 17 minutes when Laura Cunnock netted via a rebound from her initially saved effort.

Trailing just 1-0 at the break, Nomads were right in the contest, but 11 minutes into the second half Jordan Parry’s team faced an uphill climb after Nieve Jenkins doubled the away lead with a tap-in from Ffion Price’s free kick.

The home side roared back, Anna Marsh forcing Ceryn Chamberlain into a near-post stop before Phoebe Ellis hit the bar from a free kick and Ella Jones’ follow-up was saved.

Cardiff were down to 10 players on 69 when Jenkins was red-carded for a dangerous challenge on Marsh.

Nomads pressed hard to get back into the tie and were eventually rewarded when Marsh scored from an angle, but that was in the 95th minute and the visitors held on for a narrow win.

Barry Town United 4 Flint Town United 2

Flint led twice in a fantastic performance down in South Wales against Adran Premier club Barry.

This was the biggest game in the Silkwomen’s short history, the first time they had travelled such a distance, but they certainly made the most of the occasion.

While the hosts dominated possession in the first half, the visitors held firm.

On 25 minutes, Lauren Harris of Barry received a second yellow card, setting up an interesting second half with 10 versus 11.

Still scoreless entering the second 45, Flint took the lead 53 minutes when Jennifer Haynes finished well at the back post from a Zoe Stopford cross via the right-hand byline.

Erin Murray levelled on 65, but two minutes later Ruby Hastings’ delivery into the box was brilliantly finished by Rosie Hughes to edge the Silkwomen in front again.

Murray made it three goals in five minutes when she volleyed home on 70 to make it two-apiece.

Anyone’s tie at this stage, and Becky Bott saved superbly, pushing a shot into the post before Jasmine Turner made it 3-2 to the South Walians after 74.

And Barry took a big step towards the quarter-finals when match-turning sub Ellie Preece added a fourth on 78 – all six goals coming in a 25-minute spell.

Flint never stopped trying, but on the day the favourites edged it.

Cwmbran Celtic 1 Wrexham 4

Wrexham progressed into the next round after goals from Liv Fuller, Amber Lightfoot, Abbie Iddenden and Lili Jones secured a 4-1 win over lower league opponents.

Fuller opened the scoring after just four minutes for her fourth goal in as many matches, but Jade Crofts levelled before the break.

The Red Dragons came out firing in the second half, as goals from Lightfoot and Iddenden made it 3-1.

Lili Jones netted the final goal in stoppage time to seal an expected victory for Steve Dale’s side..

Llandudno 2 Aberystwyth Town 4

Not to be for Llandudno as they exited the Adran Trophy at the hands of Adran Premier outfit Aberystwyth.

These sides used to meet regularly when both were in the old Welsh Premier Women’s League and Tudno had a good record against the blacks and greens, but today it was the Ceredigion side which took the spoils.

Maddie Williams rattled the bar for the home side before Lleucu Mathias struck first for Aber on four minutes. The hosts levelled when captain Sofie Owen found the net via a Shona Roberts assist.

Jessica Baker restored Town’s lead on 35 and it was 1-2 at the break.

Kelsey Davies made it two-apiece on 55 when she lobbed over the keeper from close range via a Maddie Williams assist. Game on!

However, goals from Mathias and Imogen Scourfield on 62 and 71 respectively won the day for Aber.
