Women’s hockey: Peake hits hat-trick as Rhyl rattle up 7-2 victory

Hockey: North West Women’s Division 4 West

Rhyl & District 7 (Mel Peake 3, Jess Haywood 2, Hannah Bateman-Jones 2)
Mossley Hill 2

Rhyl Ladies continued where they left off from the previous weekend and put in a strong team performance to secure a 7-2 victory against Mossley Hill.

The home side took the lead just two minutes into the game. Player of the Match Mel Peake made a well-timed run up the right wing, delivering a pass to Jess Heywood in the D, who finished confidently to make it 1-0.

Rhyl extended their lead after 9 minutes through a penalty corner, which Hannah Bateman-Jones converted with a clean strike.

Bateman-Jones added another shortly after, followed by a goal from Peake to give Rhyl a commanding 4-0 advantage at half time.

In the second half, Mossley Hill came back into the game, scoring two quick goals after Bateman-Jones went off injured, reducing Rhyl to 10 players with no substitutes available.

However, Rhyl regrouped and responded with three more goals to seal the win. Peake scored from a penalty corner, Heywood added her second with a fine finish after some great team play, and Peake rounded off the scoring with a neat finish through the keeper’s legs for her personal treble.

12 goals in two games already this season for the ladies! They travel to Formby 2s this weekend.
