Undefeated in 10 matches since the start of the season, Phoenix’s proud record came to an end at the hands of strong tier 3 outfit Llanuwchllyn.
John Evans put the visitors in front in the second minute when he found himself unmarked in the box from a Ilan Hughes corner, the centre back flicking the ball into the back of the net.
Phoenix controlled possession after the goal and began to play some nice football.
However, it was the away team that doubled their lead when centre-forward Will Owen pounced on a mistake in the defence.
Pen regrouped at half time and came flying out for the second period, again dominating possession and causing Llan all sorts of problems.
Warren Akroyd-Duckett talked himself into a red card from the bench for the away team in the 53rd minute.
One of Penmaenmawr’s standout performers this season Ben Jarvis pulled one back in the 69th minute when James Hobson found the midfielder free inside the box. Jarvis finished well into the bottom corner.
The Phoenix continued to pile the pressure on the Ardak North East team and were extremely unlucky not to get an equaliser, Adam Hold and Daniel Williams coming close, but Llan keeper Rob Dascalu kept his side’s cup dream alive, pulling off some fantastic stops and using all his experience to slow the game down for his outfield players.
Phoenix had a corner in the 90th minute when everyone piled into the box including home team keeper Elliot Jarvis. A goalmouth scramble saw the ball drop at the feet of the keeper by the penalty spot, he connected firmly only for his attempt to be blocked on the line.
The ref’s final whistle called an end to tier 4 heroes Penmaenmawr’s Welsh Cup run for the 2024/25 season.
