Chris Morrell says he is honoured to manage a club he once played for and captained

New Prestatyn Town boss Chris Morrell

Prestatyn Town’s new manager Chris Morrell says he is honoured to be chosen to lead a club he holds such a strong association with.

Former Seasiders player and captain Morrell was appointed today with a mission to get the team climbing the JD Cymru North table.

Morrell told the club website: “It’s such an honour to take charge of my hometown club and try help steady the ship at the club.

“When I was offered the job after Matty (Roberts), it was always going to be tough to turn down but I needed certain assurances before we could agree fully. However, hopefully now I’ve got them, we can create a football set up here to rival other clubs at this level.

“To be a former player, captain and now manager is of course, something I’m pretty proud of but we all now have to aim to meet and maintain high standards on and off the pitch and any player here or coming in will certainly know what’s expected to play for this club.

“The implementation of a young reserve team again, which Matty has to take great credit for, is appealing as it’s always been great to see local players coming through so our success isn’t just judged on results, it’s what we all do in taking the club forward.

“Huge thanks to (chairman) James (Benbow) for his patience, and whether is short or long term, I hope we can make the plans a reality, bring a clarity to the club’s future and I will certainly give it my best efforts.”.
