After back-to-back 4-1 defeats Bangor needed to solve the mystery of how to return to winning ways – it turned out to be a case for Corrig and Cully.

Joe Culshaw and Corrig McGonigle provided the second half goals which sank Llandudno at the Go Goodwins Stadium.

A well-deserved win for Michael Johnston’s men edged them up to fourth in the JD Cymru North.

On a sunny Friday evening, Bangor went close to scoring early on. Cai Powell-Roberts broke down the right and played an inviting ball across the face of goal where it was met by Sam Jones. The attacker’s powerful shot struck the crossbar and rebounded to safety.

At the other end, there was a goalmouth scramble following a Llandudno corner but the visiting defence managed to clear.

In a lively start, McGonigle then shot narrowly over the bar after being played in by Mason Blackwell-Jones.

Still inside the opening quarter hour, Dion Jones got on the end of a cross from James Barry, but couldn’t beat home goalkeeper Cameron Darling with his shot.

Just before the half hour, Llandudno’s Mark Cadwallader headed over the bar.

The hosts threatened again following a counter attack. A shot on the turn from near the penalty spot by Omar Ibrahim went just wide.

HALF-TIME: LLANDUDNO 0-0 BANGOR 1876

Five minutes into the second half, Llandudno’s Harvey Bennett directed a downward header towards goal but Bradley Farrar saved well.

Shortly afterwards it was Bangor’s chance to threaten. Blackwell-Jones broke into the right side of the Llandudno box after a neat pass from Culshaw, but lashed his powerful shot just off target.

Midway through the second half came the breakthrough. Blackwell-Jones curled in a free-kick from the right and Culshaw rushed in to head the ball into the net.

Tudno had a chance to level when Alex Boss broke into the left of the box and fired a shot across goal. Farrar parried the attempt and the ball was scrambled clear.

Harry Galeotti could have extended Bangor’s advantage when he got to a long ball forward ahead of the Llandudno keeper. However, he was unable to find the target when he shot at goal from a tight angle.

With 87 gone, Bangor won a penalty after a foul on Culshaw after McGonigle swung in a free-kick. It was McGonigle who stepped up to beat the keeper with a low effort down the middle.

Deep into injury time, Farrar pulled off an excellent save to keep out Boss’s header.
