Anglesey football author and historian Gareth M Davies received a very special accolade at the weekend.

Mr Davies was presented with a Holyhead Hotspur Lifetime Membership Award before the club’s Ardal North West match against CPD Y Rhyl 1879 at the New Stadium last Saturday.

A true stalwart of North Wales football, but a particularly ardent follower of Holyhead-based clubs, Mr Davies is especially renowned for his acclaimed book A Coast of Soccer Memories 1894-1994.

In more recent times, he has worked with fellow celebrated author Ian Garland on Sons of Cambria – The Who’s Who of Welsh International Football Players.

When not writing books, Mr Davies has spent many a year composing detailed match reports for local and regional press.

One of his all-time favourite figures in Anglesey football is the late, great Tommy Welsh, hero of Holyhead Town FC, who once held the record for most goals scored on the North Wales coast – 631.

Gareth M Davies has been a huge asset to North Wales football through his writing skills and unrivalled expertise for the past eight decades.

Long may he continue. Diolch yn fawr Gareth.
