A fundraising platform has been set up to help a young footballer who suffered a double leg break on Friday night.

Prestatyn Town’s Luke Wiltshire, 23, was stretchered off and taken to hospital after sustaining the serious injury in an accidental collision midway through the second half of Friday’s Cymru North game against Bangor 1876.

Luke, who joined the Seasiders from Holywell Town in February this year, had netted the first goal for Town in their 4-1 victory at Bastion Gardens.

Club skipper James Stead has set up a GoFundMe page to help Luke cope easier financially during his recovery.

A Prestatyn Town statement said today: “We’re gutted to confirm that midfielder Luke Wiltshire suffered a double leg break in our 4-1 win over Bangor last night.

“Luke suffered the injury during an accidental and unfortunate collision going for the ball in the Bangor box.

“Physio JP (John Price) followed by a number of Town and Bangor staff rushed onto the pitch to provide as much help as possible for Luke.

“Luke was stretchered off by a number of staff and stewards to applause from the whole of Bastion and was quickly collected by paramedics.

“Luke is still currently in hospital and will remain under the care of experts until Tuesday roughly. His leg will be put in plaster in the coming days.

“We will do everything in our power to aid Luke with his recovery and provide as much support as possible for the time he is out.

“We’re all with you, Luke 💚”

A GoFundMe page set an initial target of £500 to assist Luke, but just before midnight on Saturday that amount had already been raised, so a new mark of £1,000 is being aimed for

A message on the page said: “Luke Wiltshire, player for Prestatyn Town, suffered a double leg break during a fixture against Bangor 1876.

“Luke will now not only face a period of time on the sideline, he will also be faced with an uncertain period with being out of work.

“We are hoping that as a footballing family we can all come together and support Luke’s recovery, with affordable and generous donations.

“We wish you speedy recovery during this difficult time and there is lots of people who care, we are all with you Luke.”
