GOALDEN MEMORIES: Two other afternoons where it rained goals!

Five years ago Lexi Crawley (blue) scored a hat-trick for Amlwch Town on an afternoon when goals were flying in everywhere. Picture: GETH JONES

We’ve reported on some goal-packed afternoons in recent seasons!

Today saw 63 goals netted in just six North East Wales League Championship Division games.

We’ve not found anything to beat that yet in our files.

However, here’s a couple net-finding feasts we recall.

September 8, 2019
North Wales Women’s Football League: 73 goals scored across eight games!

Airbus 2 (Jade Scott, Becky Lees) Northop Hall 2 (Rebecca Hughes pen, Abbie Holland)

Bethesda Athletic 1 (Shannon Jade Jones) Rhyl 18 (Ceri Purvis 7, Natalie Harrison 6, Sade Benjamin 2, Charlie Skeffington, Joy Jamieson, Catrin Davies)

Corwen 1 (Katie Armstrong pen) Denbigh Town 2 (Kathryn Jones, Gwawr Williams)

Wrexham 1 (Emma Hazel) Llanfair United 12 (Gemma Jones 4, Sophie Cook 2, Nia Ellis 2, Sarah Ellis 2, Mary Griffiths 2)

DIVISION TWO

Holywell Town 0 Connah’s Quay Nomads 12 (Candice Nellist 3, Jennifer Haynes 3, Tonicha Dickens 2, Jasmin Dutton, Erin Heathcote, Ellie Sandiford, Rebecca Morris)

Llanberis 5 (Sioned Phillips 2, Charley Davies, Nia Owen, Diana Roberts) Caernarfon Town 3 (Jordan Roberts 2, Sophie Lewis)

NFA 0 Amlwch Town 9 (Catrin Evans 2, Ffion Owen 3, Cerys Gadd, Lexi Crawley 3)

Penrhyn Bay 2 (Ffion Evans, Hannah Smith) Pwllheli 3 (Lois Thomas 2, Stacey Sansome)

I was at the NFA v Amlwch Town match that sun-baked day. NFA were a brand new side and found the going tough against a very experienced Amlwch outfit, Lexi Crawley scoring a particularly memorable hat-trick.

In Division One, the Bethesda Athletic v Rhyl result quickly became void after Pesda withdrew from the league. Rhyl were not best pleased, having claimed a resounding 18-1 win with Ceri Purvis scoring 7 and Natalie Harrison 6. Sadly for them, the match details were expunged.

FC United of Wrexham 6 (Aston Jones 3, 2 pens, George Yarwood 2, Kirk Ratcliffe) Johnstown YFC 6 (Robert Reynolds 3, Matthew Durban 2, Nathan Mugford)

Ruabon Rovers 4 (Lee Price 3, 2 pens, Nathan Williams) Railway Rovers 1 (Ryan Loose)

RESERVE DIVISION

Ruthin Town Development 2 (Osian Gallagher Wort, Robert Jones) Hawarden Rangers 7 (David Salusbury 2, Luis Rowland 2, Liam Hett, Josh Edwards, Josh Hughes)

Four league matches were postponed, so there’s a decent chance we’d have passed the 100-mark had they gone ahead.

On a sad note……😭

Sad to reflect that although the above matches took place less than three years ago, four of the big winners that day no longer compete in senior football.
