North Wales Road Runner Charlotte Rose Wilton Jones completed a very tough 25k mountain race in Snowdonia last Saturday to help raise funds for ‘Beat,’ a UK eating disorder charity.
The experienced mountain and fell running athlete completed her run in style with a remarkable gun time of just 3 hours 24 minutes and 53 seconds. She was the 9th female finisher, in 58th place overall, and 6th in her respective FSen age category.
Her incredible challenge was part of the 2024 Ogwen25 Yr Helgi Du 10k and 25k races, and Charlotte took on the top challenge in the latter 25k event and appealed for funding towards this deserving cause via her JustGiving page, setting an initial a target of £400.
Her individual page described her intention and stated: “I’ll be taking part in the Ogwen25 on August 3rd held in Snowdonia this year, which is a 25km hilly mountain race and I’ll be raising funds for ‘Beat.’ This cause means a lot to me, having suffered Bulimia for many years myself.
“Therefore, I know first-hand how isolating this illness can be, and the importance of charities like Beat who offer support, as accessing treatment can be a difficult process.
“I now feel in a position to safely do a fundraiser like this and also be able to talk about this illness in the past tense. Beat supports anyone with an eating disorder.

“These serious mental illnesses include anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa and binge eating disorder. 1.25 million people in the UK have a diagnosed eating disorder. They affect people of all ages and backgrounds, and up to one in four sufferers are male. Eating disorders cost the UK’s economy £16.8 billion each year.”
After her gruelling race Charlotte confirmed: “It was a very hilly challenge, but I loved it as always. The weather was a mixture of sunshine and fog on the tops! There was also a fair bit of scrabbling, which was my favourite bit. I have now reached my target. It was such an amazing new event. Thank you to everyone.”
