Bumper turnout for midweek Felinheli 10k race

There was a very good turnout of members from North Wales Road Runners at the annual Felinheli 10k race on July 3, which attracted a bumper entry of some 325 club and social runners on a bright and breezy evening.
Martin Green finished in 2nd place overall and won his M40 age cat in style in just 35 minutes and 34 seconds, and was one of five club runners among 21 entrants who claimed podium places, including three age category wins, and two third-place finishes.
Will Evans was pleased with 20th place in 41.03, and he was 4th M40. Stuart Culverhouse took 28th in 42.14 and 3rd M50, whilst Iwan Evans was 31st in 42.51, chased all the way by club newcomer Benjamin Brummitt, who enjoyed a fine run in 32nd position in 42.56.
Carla Green won her F50 age cat, and was 4th female with an excellent time of 43.16, and James Jones claimed 41st place in 43.48, with Sion Thomas 44th in 44.23.
Adam Lemalle celebrated a new PB of 44.36 in 46th place, with veteran Kevin Slattery 53rd and 4th MV60 in 45.20.
Steve Roberts was 64th in 45.57, and master vet Sandy Johnston finished 78th, and won his MV70 cat in 47.31. Meanwhile, Ben Hudson – still recovering from his recent ultra-event – ran well in 83rd place in 47.51, whilst wife Sarah Hudson, also battling with heavy legs, was 16th female and 5th F40 in 47.59.
Nicola Wylie made a welcome return as the 37th female and 3rd F50 in 52.04, with Hannah Griffith 50th female in 53.43. Master vet Rob Fryer was 4th M70 in 141st place in 54.45, with Nia Lister 78th female runner in 58.27.
Master veteran Mike Hayton took 169th in 1.02.19, with Gwen Charlton 111th female runner in 1.05.01, and Rachel Morris clocked 1.12.35 as 126th female.
*The first three finishers at Felinheli were: Ifan Dafydd, 1st in 33.19, Martin Green (NWRRC), 2nd in 35.34, and Aled Hughes (GOG Triathlon), 3rd in 37.38.
*The 1st female was Rachel Shipley (Abergele Harriers) in 40.02, and Tinka Vinks (Eryri Harriers), was 2nd in 40.37, with Lucy Bracegirdle 3rd in 41.58. *All results based on gender finishing places and chip times.

Five championship medals for five Road Runners at Fairy Freckled Cow race

Five Road Runners successfully competed in the Fairy Freckled Cow Trail Race last Sunday, which was a very challenging 10.7k around Llyn Alwen Reservoir and formed part of the North Wales Trail Race Championships, with each member collecting a prestigious medal.
Stuart Culverhouse led the NWRRC team home, attaining a deserved gold medal after finishing 14th overall and he won his M50 age cat in 47 minutes and 26 seconds.
Cheryl Frost achieved 34th place and 2nd F55 in 56.25 to win a silver medal, and Nicola Wylie celebrated winning bronze in 3rd F55, finishing in 39th position in 60.54.
Master vets Rob Fryer and Mike Hayton also won championship medals with Rob collecting silver in his MV70 cat and 48th overall in 63.49, with Mike 68th and 3rd MV70 in 72.47 for bronze.
Richard Scamans makes successful debut in Llanrwst Sprint Triathlon

Road Runner Richard Scamans took part in his first ever Triathlon event in rather wet conditions, but was pleased with his overall performance and completed a swim, run, cycle, and final dash in a respectable time of 1hr 52 mins and 8 seconds.
Richard entered the challenging Llanrwst Sprint Triathlon and finished 97th out of 147 finishers, and he was the 54th male athlete and 15th in his respective super-vet age category.
After the event he confirmed: “My first triathlon completed this morning. Pleased to get round in one piece in the damp conditions, although I was obviously wet from the swim, so it didn’t affect me too much.
“Anyone wanting to do a triathlon, I would definitely recommend this one for first timers or for experienced athletes. Friendly marshals and very helpful organisers. Thank you for all the encouragement today and advice in the lead up to today.”
Six age cat wins for Road Runners at very wet Conwy Parkrun

It was a tough morning at the Conwy Parkrun last Saturday for both athletes and volunteers, with wind, rain and a waterlogged course adding to the usual challenges of this 5k dash.
The conditions kept the number of entrants well down to just 136 brave souls who opted to turn out on such a horrible day, but 11 members of North Wales Road Runners took full advantage of the conditions, with every runner either winning, or finishing in the top-three of their respective age categories.
And Mark Jesset was delighted to be the first man home overall, and was one of six age cat winners on the day, recording a very good time of just 18 minutes and 38 seconds to additionally win his VM35 cat over this swamp-like course from the RSPB Nature Reserve to Deganwy and back.
Steve Mason was 10th, and won his MV45 cat in 20.32, with Carla Green finishing 2nd female, 12th overall, and topped her VW50 in 21.20.
Harry Driscoll finished 13th in 21.38 and 3rd SM20, and young Joe Culverhouse quite remarkably claimed a new course PB of 21.58 in 21st place and won his JM11-14 cat.
Stuart Culverhouse was 24th in 22.12 and 2nd VM50, with Steve Bozier back at Conwy Parkrun with an excellent 22.36, recording 27th place and 3rd VM45.
Super-vet Sandy Johnston won his VM75 cat with a strong run in 46th place in 25.19, and Hannah Griffith enjoyed her dash with a splash, finishing 61st in 26.45 and 2nd VW50, whilst master vet Rob Fryer was 68th in 27.40 and 1st VM70, with veteran John O’Shea 2nd VM65 in 93rd place in 30.28.
*The first finisher overall was Mark Jessett (NWRRC), who won his VM35 cat in 18.38, with Len Jackson’s son Daniel Jackson 2nd with a very positive run, and a new PB of 19.04 to win his SM25 age cat. Matthew Wheeler (Weston AC) finished 3rd on his debut in 19.25.
*The 1st female finisher was Sandy Johnston’s daughter Alice Johnston (Les Croupiers) in 20.13, and she also won her SW30 age cat. Carla Green (NWRRC) finished 2nd and she won her VW50 in 21.20, with junior athlete Gwen Hayes 1st JW11-14 with a superb run and a new course PB of 21.50.
