CPDM Y Felinheli – a review of season 2023-24

Felinheli celebrate winning the 2023-24 NWCFA Women’s Challenge Cup

CPDM Y Felinheli could look back on a great season when they held their recent presentation evening.

As well as finishing third in Tier 2 Genero Adran North, the Cae Seilo side also retained the North Wales Coast Women’s Challenge Cup.

Their goalkeeper, Catrin Beech, was the 2023-24 Adran North Golden Glove, while Ffion Williams was nominated for Adran North Player of the Season.

Aaron Jones-Evans was also nominated for Adran North Manager of the Season.

Felin were right in contention for the league title until a dramatic 4-3 defeat at home to eventual champions Llandudno on March 17.

Prior to that they had won seven in a row, including a stunning 4-0 triumph at Connah’s Quay Nomads, who until that game had a 100% record.

Felin also made it to the Genero Adran Trophy quarter-finals, losing 4-0 to Adran Premier side Aberystwyth Town, and also performed really well in a 4-0 Welsh Cup loss at The New Saints.

Here is a rundown of the team’s own 2023-24 awards, with testimonials from the manager Aaron, who has been a fantastic supporter of Grassroots North Wales this season.

GOAL OF THE SEASON
Nel Huws

Nel Huws (centre) with manager Aaron Jones-Evans and coach Aled ‘Pob’ Griffih

Great volley against Rhyl at home towards the end of the season.

CLUB MVP
Hana Wellings

Has been a revolution since joining us last season. Not only a combative, physical midfielder but also great on the ball with some superb vision. Has added so much character to our changing room, it feels like she has been there for 10 years plus.

The club would not have had such a strong finish to the season without the contribution of Hana, a deserving winner to our club MVP.

TOP SCORER
Catrin Evans

Again a massive contributor to our season on the whole, an excellent player with the right attitude towards the game.

Despite all of her talents and experience she was always ready to learn and improve this season and her push to our leading scorer proved that hard work does pay off.

PLAYERS’ PLAYER
Jody Cain

Jody in green and yellow (nearest ball)

The one every player wants, and there were a lot of players close to winning it for us this year with only one vote separating 1st, 2nd and 3rd places!

But the worthy winner in the end was Jody Cain. What more can we say about Jody that hasn’t already been said over the years, she is a consistent performer with an unreal engine. She really is that unsung hero of our club, and our players saw that this season so Jody got the recognition she deserves.

COACHES’ PLAYER
Jenna Tugwell-Allsup

This award is presented to the player who has given their all this season and proves it on the training ground, the changing rooms and on the pitch.

Such an excellent role model to this young team with bundles of energy and positivity, the place wasn’t the same when she left so we are very happy to have her back in our ranks.

YOUNG PLAYER OF THE SEASON
Lois Williams

Lois with Aaron and Pob

At such a young age, only 17, to be playing a pivotal role for us in midfield is testament to her talents.

Screening a back 4 at tier 2 level is not an easy job to do, but to have been doing it since the age of 15 is unbelievable.

She has a very bright future ahead of her with all the potential in the world coming to fruition right now, a lot more to come from her in the near future.

PLAYER OF THE SEASON
Jenna Tugwell-Allsup

Well deserved second award for Jenna, and of course the big one of the night.
The journey she has been on over the last 4-5 years is incredible, some of it as part of our squad and some of it away from us.

She has never stopped improving and we have never stopped watching her progress. From a centre back in a back 3 into a starting No10 this season, she has flourished and proved once again that she really does belong among the best in tier 2 football in North Wales.

What a fabulous footballing group
