Chirk’s cricket teams had a mixed weekend

SHROPSHIRE COUNTY CRICKET LEAGUE REPORTS – JUNE 15

DIVISION ONE

Chirk 1st XI (20) 122-4 Lilleshall (2) 121-10

Liam Walker returned career-best bowling figures of 5-30 as Chirk celebrated a six-wicket victory in their latest Division One clash on Saturday.

Visitors Lilleshall were put into bat and bowled out for 121 off 39.2 overs, Walker’s five-for well backed by Nick Flack (2-16) and Andrew Swarbrick (2-28).

In reply, Chirk reached 122-4 in 25.5, Flack 24 not out and Simon Rickett 23 no.

DIVISION SEVEN

Coton Hall 1st XI (21) 191-5 Chirk 2nd XI (6) 187-3

Leaders Chirk seconds suffered a first defeat of the season despite setting a good score at Coton Hall.

Put into bat, the North Wales side posted 187-3 off 40 overs, Chris Hughes an excellent 76 not out, skipper Dale Randall 50 and Andy Jones 33.

In response, Coton Hall raced to 191-5 in 29.1, Dan Thomas 55, Jack Wilson 44 not out, George Collins 3-31 for the visitors.

DIVISION ONE

Newtown 1st XI (24) 72-10 Chirk 1st XI (4) 44-10

After bowling out Newtown for just 72, Chirk must have fancied their chances of victory, but the visitors could only muster 44 in reply.

Newtown won the toss, elected to bat, and were indebted to David Laird (32) for his decisive score.

For Chirk, Luke Gardner picked up 5-31, Nick Flack 3-2 off four and Andrew Swarbrick 2-26.

Only Liam Walker and Gardner (10 apiece) managed double-figures in the away response, hero Laird scooping 6-21 and Tom Anderson 4-20.

DIVISION SEVEN

Chirk 2nd XI (20) 154-4 Albrighton (5) 151-8

Chris Hughes struck an important 54 not out in Chirk seconds’ six-wicket success.

Visitors Albrighton chose to bat and set 151-8 off 40 overs, David Morris 63 not out, Andy Jones taking 3-28, Nigel Davies 2-20 and Martin Wright 2-24 for the hosts.

Chirk seconds hit back with 154-4 in 27.1, Hughes’ half-ton supported by 39 from Shaun Walker and captain Dale Randall’s 21.
