CPDM Bangor have signed one of North Wales’ most improved players for the 2024-25 season.

Midfielder Ashleigh Jones, 28, joins the Adran North club from North Wales League side Trearddur Bay.

Jones had been with Trearddur since helping their formation as a recreation side in 2019-20.

She was captain of the team when it entered the North Wales Women’s League in 2021-22, going on to make 51 appearances and score 21 goals over the next three seasons.

Ashleigh netted her first hat-trick for the Bay last season, and is the club’s overall top-scorer, Her best return was 11 goals in 22 matches in 2022-23.

In summer 2023, she was an impressive member of the Ynys Môn squad which finished fifth at the Island Games in Guernsey.

Now comes a new challenge with Adran North outfit Bangor, who released the following statement: “CPD Merched Bangor are pleased to announce their first signing of the 2024/25 season.

“Ashleigh Jones of Trearddur Bay has decided to join CPDM Bangor as she would like to take on the challenge of Tier 2 football.

“Ashleigh has played for Cybi Ladies, Amlwch and Trearddur Bay as well as representing Ynys Môn in the Island Games.

“We are looking to add to last season’s squad by adding a few experienced and committed players and Ashleigh is a prime example of the standard of player we are looking to put pen to paper.

“Hopefully this will show our intent and ambition for the season and will be the first of a few top signings in pre-season.

“Ashleigh states that she is ‘excited for the challenge of a higher league and the opportunities it will bring’,”

Ashleigh has been a football achiever from a young age.

In 2007, she became the first female captain to lift the Albert Owen Shield when leading Holyhead’s Ysgol Llanfawr to victory over Ysgol Llanfechell in the final.

After a spell with Cybi Ladies in senior football, she was involved in Amlwch Town’s rise to prominence in 2018-19, featuring in first-ever trophy success when they lifted the North Wales Women’s League Supplementary Cup in a 2-1 victory over Wrexham at Belle Vue, Rhyl.

Then in 2019-20, she was in the Amlwch squad which lifted the North Wales League Division Two title, emerging unbeaten over nine games in a shortened campaign because of Covid-19.
