Long-serving captain Carol Lewis announces departure from Amlwch Town

Long-serving Amlwch Town captain Carol Lewis has announced she is leaving the club.

The 36-year-old has been an Amlwch player for the past 12 seasons, but has now opted to call it a day.

She announced her decision on social media this evening, saying: “I have decided to take a step away from Amlwch Town Ladies this season. It hasn’t been an easy decision to make by far, but sometimes you’ve just got to do what’s best for you!

“12 seasons at Amlwch Town and it’s been a rollercoaster ride but I’ve enjoyed every minute of it, we’ve had some laughs and tears.

“I’ve made some good friends along the way, friends who I’ve made for life. I want to thank everyone who has been part of my journey at Amlwch, thank you for supporting me and believing in me.

“Most of all thank you to my team-mates, thank you for standing by me, trusting me as your captain but most of all being my friend.

“You girls are my best and one thing is for sure – I will miss you all.”

Defender Lewis has been an inspirational leader who has played a major role in Amlwch’s successes of recent years.

She led the side to their first-ever trophy – the North Wales Supplementary Cup – in 2018-19 and followed up with the North Wales League Division Two title in 2019-20.

Hailing from Llannerchymedd, strong in the tackle and a tremendous organiser and motivator at the back, Lewis was also part of the Ynys Môn squad which won silver at the 2019 Inter-Games Football Tournament.

Four years later, she captained the Môn women’s team which finished a highest-ever fifth place in an official Island Games during 2023.

She competed in her fourth Island Games in 2023 (five if you include the one-off Inter-Games Tournament of 2019).

It is unknown what Lewis’ next move will be, but it is understood she wants to have at least one season at Tier 2 level before hanging up her boots.
