T20 cricket: St Asaph openers lay foundations for win over neighbours Denbigh

NORTH WALES CRICKET LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION T20
St Asaph (3) 160-3
Denbigh (0) 114-5
An opening stand of 81 between Mathew Ryan and Nathanel Scott laid the victory foundations for St Asaph in Thursday’s T20 triumph over neighbours Denbigh.
Winning the toss and electing to bat, Saints got off to a flyer with Ryan hitting 58 off 43 balls, including five fours and three sixes, while Scott made 42 from 35.
William Norman (20 not out) and captain Will Ryan (19 no) helped the hosts set a formidable 160-3 off their 20 overs.
Joe Lewis, Sam Lewis and James Thomas took a wicket apiece for the visitors.
Denbigh’s opening pair, James Du Toit and skipper Harrison Jones, also impressed putting on 72, but the away side were never able to seriously threaten the home total and finished on 114-5 off their 20.
Jones hit 40, Du Toit 23 and Andy Clarke 23 not out.
For Asaph, Robbie Prior picked up 2-17 off four and Danny Ryan 2-18 from three, Dan Evans grabbing the other wicket to fall.
St Asaph won by 46 runs.
