Managers leave but captain Ruby expresses delight at promotion news

Things have changed pretty quickly at Flint Town United – women’s team managers Elliott Hale and Dan Kelly have stepped down.

The news was announced this morning by the club, just hours after Hale told Grassroots North Wales he was delighted at yesterday’s news of Flint’s promotion this season.

The team will operate in Tier 2 Genero Adran North in 2024-25, just two seasons since their formation.

Hale and Kelly were in charge of a team crowned North Wales Women’s League East Division champions last season with a perfect record of 12 straight wins.

A new management team is already in the pipeline for the Silkwomen, but has yet to be officially confirmed by the club.

Meanwhile, Flint captain Ruby McGilloway has expressed joy at the team’s elevation to Tier 2.

The 26-year-old midfielder joined the Silkwomen last season, scoring eight goals in 18 appearances.

“Having the promotion confirmed and the announcement yesterday of who we will be up against has made us all very excited for the new challenge,” said Ruby.

“I am proud of everyone involved with the club as it is often underestimated the work that goes on behind the scenes. All the hard work and commitment over the last two seasons has now paid off.

“Winning every game this season has proved we deserve this place in the genero adran north league.

All the girls will stick together and that’s how we’ll get through, win or lose. We understand it’s a massive step up but we will continue doing what we’re doing, working hard, giving 100% in both training and games and that’s good enough.

As long as we’re trying our best, enjoying the love of the game and having fun with our mates on and off the pitch, that’s what it’s all about.”

The FAW National Leagues Board have confirmed the composition of the Genero Adran Leagues for the 2024/25 season.
