Flint Town United Ladies have confirmed their management team for 2024-25.

Former Holywell Town coach Tony Doyle will lead the Silkwomen in their first venture into Tier 2 football, while Stephen Hughes and Lee Hastings make up the rest of the management team.

After winning the Tier 3 East title and clinching promotion to the Ardal North last season, managers Elliott Hale and Andy Kelly stepped down this summer.

Sunday saw Flint involved in a cracking friendly against fellow fast-developing side Llangefni Town from Anglesey.

Brief match report

Two of the best sides to feature in Tier 3 women’s football last season played out a close-fought and exciting friendly today.

In the end, the 2023-24 North Wales Women’s League East champions Flint pipped West runners-up and Betty Pickering Cup winners Llangefni by a single goal.

A good game between two well-matched teams produced a seven-goal thriller at Cae-y-Castell.

All-in-all, it was a pretty even game throughout which ebbed and flowed score-wise before Ruby Hastings bagged the winner with 10 minutes left.

Last season’s top-scorer Zoe Stopford netted Flint’s first, linking up well with Hastings before finishing to the keeper’s right.

Rosie Hughes notched the home side’s second via a 25 yard free kick

Liv Owen opened her account for the team with an 18-yard power drive into the top corner

And Hastings’ winner came from just inside the box on the right. beating the keeper into the bottom corner.

Goal machine Jess Jones netted twice and new signing Ffion Owen was also on the mark for Cefni.

Acting Flint manager/coach Stephen Hughes said after the game: “Really good start to pre-season with an excellent win against a really strong Llangefni team.

Although we were short on numbers and asking players to play in unfamiliar positions you all stuck together and ground it out, so a big well done from me “
