Looks like curtains for NWCFA Junior Cup final

It is looking very likely that the 2023-24 NWCFA Junior Challenge Cup final will not be played.

The North Wales Coast Football Association had asked the FAW for an extension to the season beyond May 31 in the hope arrangements could be made for the prestigious event to still go ahead.

However, it is believed the NWCFA have decided not to press on with their plan to save the Tier 5 final.

The FAW confirmed last week it had received a 2023-24 season extension request from the NWCFA, but could not comment further.

Llanfairpwll reached the final in February, but the question of who they would meet in the showpiece, scheduled for Colwyn Bay, originally on May 11, has remained unanswered.

In the other semi, CPD Y Glannau beat Bow 8-1 three months ago.

However, Bow put in a protest to the NWCFA that their opponents had fielded an ineligible player as a late substitute, when the score was 8-1.

The NWCFA agreed and dismissed Y Glannau from the competition.

Y Glannau appealed to a special NWCFA committee and won, however Bow then took the matter to the FAW, who ruled in their favour.

Y Glannau submitted an appeal to the FAW and lost. The one option for Y Glannau was to go to arbitration and it is believed they exercised this right a few days before the season concluded.

An FAW extension to the campaign would have raised the possibility of the final being staged, but the news tonight appears to be that the NWCFA have cancelled the competition.

A very sad episode for North Wales football.
