Llandyrnog United sign Vale of Clwyd football great

Llandyrnog United have boosted their ranks with the signing of renowned goalscoring midfielder Kristian Pierce.

The 30-year-old is best known for his long service to Denbigh Town, where he is the club’s fourth-highest marksman of the ‘modern-day era’ (since 1992) with 77 goals.

He has also played in the Welsh Premier League for the former Rhyl FC and Bala Town, where was part of the Europa League squad which faced FC Levadia of Estonia in 2013/14.

Pierce came on as a substitute in the second leg at Kadrioru Staadion, which the Lakesiders lost 3-1 after recording a famous 1-0 victory in the first game at Belle Vue, Rhyl.

In 2015-16, Kristian was a key player in Denbigh Town’s unforgettable run to the 2015-16 Word Cup final, including setting up the winner for Sam Jones in the semis against Welsh Premier Connah’s Quay Nomads.

He also netted twice in a memorable 4-2 victory at Rhyl FC and bagged a further double in a 4-0 beating of Holyhead Hotspur.

Town eventually lost 2-0 to The New Saints in the final, but claimed three WPL scalps en route.

Kristian retired from the game in 2021-22 after a long battle with injuries and became part of the Denbigh Town management team, celebrating a Tier 3 Ardal North West league title and cup double in 2022-23.

He has attempted comebacks at various stages and hopes he can still offer important contributions on the playing side.

Very early in his career, he had a spell with Llandyrnog, where he now returns after almost 14 years away.

The villagers, who are close neighbours to Denbigh Town, currently play in the Tier 4 North Wales Coast East League Premier Division.
