Kenny Jones will be the new manager of CPD Glantraeth for the 2024/25 season
For Jones, it is a first solo managerial role, although he has built up plenty of experience as part of management teams at Gwalchmai and Gaerwen.
Kenny, 42, has also worked alongside Glantraeth manager Lee Jones, who decided to step down at the end of last season.
A popular figure on the Ynys Mon football scene, Kenny said: “I am delighted to be given the opportunity to manage Glantraeth FC. This is my first solo managerial job having once been joint manager at Gwalchmai FC. I was second in command for Lee Jones for the past 6 years.
“Hopefully, the transition from assistant to manager will be a smooth one as I know this club well and the group of players we have.
“I am really looking forward for the challenge ahead and delighted that my assistant will be Paul Bryant who brings so much experience and knowledge to the game. Keith (Machno) Jones will be staying on as coach.”
Meddai Kenny: “Rwy’n falch iawn o gael y cyfle i reoli CPD Glantraeth. Dyma fy swydd reoli unigol gyntaf ar ôl bod yn gyd-reolwr gyda CPD Gwalchmai ar un adeg. Bûm yn ail yn rheolwr Lee Jones am y 6 blynedd diwethaf.
“Gobeithio bydd y trosglwyddiad o gynorthwyydd i Reolwr yn un esmwyth gan fy mod yn adnabod y clwb yma yn dda a’r criw o chwaraewyr sydd gennym.
“Rwy’n edrych ymlaen yn fawr at yr her o’n blaenau ac wrth fy modd mai fy nghynorthwyydd fydd Paul Bryant sy’n dod â chymaint o brofiad a gwybodaeth i’r gêm. Bydd Keith (Machno) Jones yn aros ymlaen fel hyfforddwr.
“Hoffwn ddiolch i’r clwb am y cyfle hwn ac ni allaf aros i’r tymor newydd gychwyn.”
Glantraeth had a good 2023-24 season, finishing eighth in the Tier 4 North Wales Coast West Premier Division and reaching the Cwpan Snowdonia Fire and Security Cup final.
Kenny’s playing career was very impressive.
He started off playing for Bodedern Juniors and joined Wolverhampton Wanderers at 14. Kenny moved up to the Midlands when he left school and became an apprentice at Molyneux. remaining with the club until his late teens.
Kenny returned to Anglesey and signed for Bangor City before going on to play for Llangefni Town, Bethesda and Porthmadog, then joining Paul Owen at Gwalchmai where the club won the Anglesey League in 2007-08 and were promoted to the Gwynedd League for the first time in their history.
He left Maes Meurig that season, returning to Llangefni Town and from there he went to Pentraeth before finishing his playing career at Amlwch Town.
He returned to Gwalchmai to join Paul Owen and Rob Hughes and had a great few years there before the club had to pull out of the Welsh Alliance League in 2015/16.
On his new job at Glantraeth, Kenny said: “Then Lee Jones gave me the opportunity to be his assistant at Gaerwen before moving on to Glantraeth with him.
“I’ve been lucky to have played with Premier League, FA Cup and League Cup winners, Wales and Ireland internationals and of course local talent and I was very lucky to go to the island games in the Isle of Man where Ynys Môn won the silver medal.”
