Denbigh Town Ladies had a great season

REPORT: Ollie Beech

It was a time for positive reflection when Denbigh Town Ladies held their annual end-of-season awards.

Ellen Lawson’s side finished an outstanding second in the North Wales Women’s League East Division in 2023-24, with only invincible champions Flint Town United above them.

Members of the squad and staff met at the Hope and Anchor in Denbigh last week where chairman Shon Powell was on hand to present trophies to the deserved winners.

The Winners:

Managers Player of the Season: Jess Duff
Players Player of the Season: Jess Duff
Young Player of the Season: Lowri Claybrook
Supporters Player of the Season: Netty Young
Top Goal Scorer: Ceri Purvis
Club Person of the Year: Carla Rizzi

Defender Jess Duff picked up the double honour of being voted both Players Player and Managers Player of the Season. The 22-year-old made 15 appearances for the side last term and showed exceptional dedication to compliment her superb performances on the pitch.

She was rewarded on the final day of the season with a superb assist for Beth Kell’s goal away to Llangefni, her first goal contribution since joining.

Meanwhile, Young Player of the Season Lowri Claybrook has been outstanding since joining from Corwen last summer.

The 17-year-old made 16 appearances in her first season scoring four goals and dominating the midfield at Central Park.

Goalkeeper Netty Young scooped the Supporters Player of the Season after another great campaign.

The shot-stopper featured 16 times last term where he was for the most part a mainstay in the side, with dedicated performances and a positive attitude.

Ceri Purvis continued her formidable goal-scoring form in North Wales football by netting 22 goals in just 16 appearances. Purvis signed for the club last summer from Airbus UK Broughton and has had a career spanning over 30 years, and she showed no signs of slowing down last season by topping the charts for Town.

Finally, Carla Rizzi scooped Club Person of the Year. Rizzi has been an integral part of the ladies setup for a long period of time and has again this season shown excellent commitment on and off the pitch, including coaching the girls junior sides and playing for the first team.
