Fantastic weekend of finals hosted by NEWFA at Ruthin Town

Meet the invincibles – Hawarden Rangers Vets

Thirteen cup finals took place at the North East Wales Football Association’s annual showpiece.

Ruthin Town’s Memorial Playing Fields was the venue as teams of all ages played out their respective finals between Friday and Sunday, May 10-12.

Grassroots North Wales does its best here to cover the action, although not all goalscorers could be located.

NORTH EAST WALES FA VETS CUP FINAL
Hawarden Rangers 2 Mynydd Isa Reserves 0

The invincibles keep on being invincible.
Hawarden Rangers Vets are now unbeaten in three seasons after lifting the NEWFA Cup for a third successive year on Sunday with a 2-0 triumph over Mynydd Isa.
Goals from top-scorer Alan Dawson, who made it 27 in 14 games this term, and the magical Jamie Reed sealed victory at the Memorial Playing Fields.
Already crowned NEWFA Vets Premier Division champions and League Cup winners, Rangers made it a treble in a season where they went undefeated in 17 matches, 15 wins and two draws.

NORTH EAST WALES UNDER-19 CUP FINAL

Well done Caerwys Under-19s

Caleb Jones, Alex Jones and Tomas Fenton all scored two goals apiece as Caerwys romped to victory in the Under-19 Cup final.
Fenton also missed a penalty, while James Davies added a single for the winners. Luca Williams-Eaton and Harry Lloyd-Williams replied for Ewloe.

A delighted Aston Park Rangers

Lennon Young (2) and Kian Edwards notched the goals which earned Aston Park a narrow victory over Borras.
Alby Jones was one of the Albion marksmen.

NEWFA UNDER-13 CUP FINAL

Borras Park Albion Blue

Jacob Mawson-Rogers of Borras scored the only goal of the first half in a final where things livened up after the break.
Logan Hay (2), William Lewis-Jones and Finley Colclough made the scoresheet for victorious Blue in the second period, Evan Stooke and Dexter McGilloway replying for Greenfield.

NEWFA UNDER-12 CUP FINAL
Cefn Mawr Rangers 5 Gresford Athletic 1

Evan Evans, Benjamin De Almeida, Shae Flitcroft, Shae Maxfield and Daniel Abraham shared the goals as Cefn Mawr completed a league and cup double.

NEWFA WOMEN’S CHALLENGE CUP FINAL
Connah’s Quay 5 Airbus UK Broughton 0

Nomads won the NEWFA Challenge Cup for a third successive year.
Evie Chard scored from halfway, Kylie Jones converted a penalty and Elana Harley finished well to make it 3-0 at half time.
Second half goals from substitutes Anais Bathily and Alisha Whitehead-Hughes sealed an emphatic victory.

Penyffordd Lions celebrate with their junior mascots

Ben Hughes (2, 1 pen) and Liam Hughes delivered the goals which made sure Penyffordd rejoiced over a trophy double as they defeated Mynydd Isa 3-1 in the Horace Wynne Cup showpiece.
With the Premier Division Cup already in the cabinet, Lions’ magnificent end to the 2023-24 season continued.
Sam Wainwright scored Mynydd Isa’s goal from the penalty spot.

NEWFA RESERVES CUP FINAL

What a weekend for the Mountain

Mountain made it a weekend NEWFA trophy club double as their second team scooped the Reserves Cup with a superb victory over Ruthin on Saturday.
James Dunseath (2, 1 pen), Ben Lawrence and Wayne Edwards shared the goals as Flint celebrated a memorable win after extra time.
Sean Kell, Gruff Owen Hughes and an own goal ensured Ruthin went close.

NEWFA UNDER-14 FINAL
Rhos Aelwyd 4 Coedpoeth 2

Victorious Rhos Aelwyd

Luke Plant’s double put Coedpoeth 2-0 up before Jack Evans hit back for Rhos, who went on to lift the cup with a 4-2 success.

NEWFA UNDER-15 GIRLS FINAL
Airbus 3 Buckley 1

Mollie Edge and captain Niamh Makin were among the Airbus scorers in Sunday’s final.
The Wingmakers led 3-0 before Buckley replied late on.

NEWFA UNDER-13 GIRLS FINAL

Hawarden Rangers 5 Gresford Athletic 1

Riley Taylor and Lewis Cooke were among the scorers for a Hawarden side which made it a cup double weekend for the club.

NEWFA MEN’S SENIOR CHALLENGE CUP FINAL
Flint Mountain 3 Mold Alexandra 2

Tier 3 underdogs Mountain lifted the cup for the first time as they won a thriller against Cymru North outfit Mold at Ruthin Town on Friday night.
Lloyd Ellams (2) and Jack Sconce struck for the Ardal North West leaders, Henry Nash and Sam Duffy for Alex, who fought back from two-down to level but lost to an 80th minute clincher.
