Llandudno are expelled from NWCFA Women’s Challenge Cup – Llanystumdwy progress

Llandudno have been expelled from the NWCFA Women’s Challenge Cup for fielding an ineligible player in their 7-0 semi-final victory over Llanystumdwy.

Gwen Roberts played 45 minutes for Tudno in the April 10 last-four tie at the OPS Wind Arena, but also represented CPDM Bangor in the same competition against CPDM Y Felinheli back in September.

While the FAW has abandoned the cup-tied rule which prevents a player from turning out for two clubs in the same cup in the same season, the NWCFA still applies the directive.

Tonight, the North Wales Coast FA released the following statement:

“The North Wales Coast Football Association (NWCFA) can confirm that the NWCFA Competitions & Inter-Association Committee recently considered a protest submitted by Llanystumdwy Women FC regarding the eligibility of a Llandudno FC player in their NWCFA Women’s Challenge Cup Semi-Final.

“The Committee upheld the protest and adjudged Llandudno FC to have lost the match.

“Llandudno FC duly appealed this decision and their appeal was heard by a NWCFA Disciplinary Panel. The Panel dismissed the appeal. Llandudno FC had a further right of appeal to the Football Association of Wales which they have not used.

“The NWCFA Women’s Challenge Cup Final will now be CPDM Y Felinheli vs Llanystumdwy Women FC.
“There will be no further comment on this matter.”

Last week, the NWCFA cancelled the original date for the final of April 28, 2024, while the protest was being dealt with.

A new date is now awaited.
