Ex-Football League defender and Welsh Premier title winner joins Llandudno management

A former Football League defender who was part of Bangor City’s 2010-11 Welsh Premier title-winning squad has joined the management team at Llandudno.

Darren Moss will be first-team coach for the Cymru North club in 2024-25.

A former Wales under-21 international, he will work alongside current Llandudno manager Jordan Hadaway and his assistant Grant Montgomery.

Wrexham-born Moss, 42, played in the Football League between 1998-2010 for Chester City, Shrewsbury Town, Crewe Alexandra and Morecambe, making well in excess of 300 appearances combined across the four clubs.

In 2011, he joined Bangor City, who were pushing for the Welsh Premier title in the first season of the ‘Super 12’.

Moss featured in most of the second phase matches, including the championship decider at Farrar Road against TNS which City won 1-0 to clinch their third national league crown. He also played in the Welsh Cup final where the Citizens lost to Llanelli.

Moss moved to Nantwich Town the following season and later became player-manager.

Spells as player-boss at Conwy Borough and Cefn Druids followed, as well as a stint as assistant at Holywell Town.

On his move to Llandudno, Moss said: “I’m delighted to join the club, I’m here to help Jordan first and foremost but I want to bring my experience here to help the young players and push them as far as I can. It’s a great set up here at Llandudno and I can’t wait to get going.”

Hadaway will remain in his position after signing a two-year contract with the club recently. Last season’s first-team coach and club record goalscorer Montgomery will now become assistant-boss.

Andy Nelson will exit his role as first team coach and become Director Of Football overseeing all football operations across the club.

“I’m absolutely delighted to become Director Of Football,” said Nelson. “I think it’s something that I’m more suited to at my age and I’ve fully realised that it’s a younger man’s game now.

“I’d like to look at all other age groups as well as the first team, and come alongside the other coaches and players to try and keep a theme that helps prepare and develop them for their future.”
