Llay are one win away from the title after a late Matt Davies goal clinched a priceless triumph over main challengers Denbigh at The Ring Today.
Victory in either of their remaining games away to Penmaenmawr Phoenix (April 7) or White Bear Vets (April 21) will seal top spot for Jonny Taylor’s side.
Today’s result put the Welly four points clear of Denbigh, who also have two matches left.
The pitch was in terrible condition but Llay generally dominated the game for 90 minutes.
Wanderers scored against the run of play on 45 minutes through Liam Jones and for a time it looked like it was not to be Welfare’s day.
However, in the 69th minute a moment of class from Ricky Evans with a stinger of a volley into the top corner made it 1-1
Llay pressed for the winner and two minutes from time, Matt Davies with a superb touch and finish sent the Welfare four points clear.
Winning manager Taylor: “It was another great game and against a good side. They’ve got a great bunch of lads there and we wish them all the best going forward. I thought we dominated the game today but just couldn’t put the ball in the net with their keeper having another great game and they defended superbly.
“After we conceded we didn’t collapse and we continued to play the way we had been doing and we knew we’d get one and potentially another and that happened with Ricky Evans hitting a superb volley and Matt Davies’ calm composed finish late on. One win away from becoming champions and a big night on the ale in the welly. UP THE VETS!”
