Rhyl 1879 see off local rivals and clinch fourth place in Genero Adran North

Two goals from young talent Llio Davies helped Rhyl clinch the victory which sealed them a deserved fourth-place finish in Genero Adran North at the expense of town rivals NFA.

Before Sunday’s derby, NFA had never beaten 1879 in six attempts and the status quo remained at the final whistle.

Rhyl started the game where they left off last week when they beat second-place Connah’s Quay 2-1, helped by a first-minute goal.

This time it took just 9 seconds for the Lilywhites to find themselves 1-0 up.

Becca Bannister hit a long delivery towards the NFA full back who failed to clear her lines and Davies capitalised on the mistake and placed the ball nicely into the net.

Rhyl continued to play with confidence and dominated the game.

A free kick was awarded to the visitors on the 26th minute. Bannister lofted into the NFA box, Laura Williams controlled the ball closely and fired into the bottom corner.

Just before half time a penalty was awarded to NFA which Mel Peake placed into the bottom corner.

The second half started with both teams very loose in possession.

Rhyl found themselves leading the way again in the 61st minute with a Sade Benjamin pass across the six-yard box, Davies again being on the front foot and slotting it in calmly.

The away side made some good tactical changes and brought on fresh legs to help them regain possession and see out the win. Another outstanding display from Rhyl Women.
