All rise for the North Wales Women’s League East champions of 2023-24 – the invincible Flint Town United.
In just their second season as a team, Elliott Hale’s side have wrapped up the title with a perfect record of 10 straight wins.
The Silkwomen have been awesome, but the path to glory wasn’t always easy.
They had to scrap hard to overcome Berriew twice and only just edged a 1-0 victory at Kinmel Bay. But like true champions, they have always found a way to win.
Sunday’s opponents, Bellevue of Wrexham, were much improved from the team Flint caned 16-0 back in October.
After the game, a delighted manager Hale said: “What a great display and team performance from the girls.
“Credit to Bellevue, they didn’t give in and stopped numerous attacks and their keeper (Tiarna Bithell) saved multiple chances, but we took enough opportunities to come away with the 3 points and continued the unbeaten run.”
That undefeated run now comprises 16 straight wins going back to the end of the 2022-23 campaign.
Flint needed an early goal at Court Road to settle them down, and it came in just the eighth minute when Ruby Hastings crossed and Daisy Hughes finished at the back post for her sixth goal of the season.
The lead was doubled on 17 minutes when Vue’s Sian Smith unfortunately put through her own goal.
Zoe Stopford reached 20 goals for the season when she made it 3-0 after 20 minutes, finishing from close range via a Tegan Crockett assist.
Flint were comfortable at half time and rounded off the scoring just before the hour when Rosie Hughes ran at the home defence and lashed home right-footed for her 16th goal this term.
The Silkwomen will now meet West Division winners Pwllheli on a date and at a venue to be confirmed in a play-off final to decide the overall North Wales Women’s League champions for 2023-24.
